Hi everyone. I have been reading here for some time and thought it was time to join in. My name is Raina aka "PumpkinPoo". Although that is a nickname from my dad, I found it suitable for here. I am from Texas, 28 years old (in a couple of weeks), happily married to my sweetie of 12 years, and mom to 2 kiddo's. At 18 I began experiencing IBS symptoms which were diagnosed as anxiety. By my early 20's I realized that something just didn't seem right with that diagnosis as it didn't fit my symptoms, lol. My symptoms worsened into my mid 20's and I decided it was time to do my own research. Diverticulitis and colitis are common in my family so I started there and eventually found out about IBS. I felt like I'd struck gold as I read the symptoms of IBS-D! So I changed my diet in the usual IBS ways and what a difference. I went from battling daily attacks to virtually none...except when I choose to "splurge", hehe. Most of my symptoms were directly related to caffeine. One coke or cup of coffee a day would ruin my tummy, as I'm sure most of you understand. My OB/GYN listened to my "self diagnosis" in January and all, but confirmed my findings. She did refer me to a specialist, which is where I am at now (only because my mother is a survivor of colon cancer). So here I am! I have to say, it is so wonderful to be amoung the company of people who understand this condition. Hope to get to know everyone better!

Hi Raina! What a pretty name! Where in Texas are you from? I'm living in Austin right now... we just moved her last August. We really love it! I'm glad you found the board (and the diet). I hear you on the caffine... it can be one of my worst triggers. I also have GERD so that's doubly deadly. It's a shame though, because I do so love coffee.

Glad to have you around! Great picture by the way!

Thank you very much! I'm from the Dallas area. I love Austin, am very familiar with it. I was just in Elgin a couple of weeks ago, visiting with my Grandma. It is always nice to see another Texan face!

Welcome to the Boards!

Congrats on your mom's success! Good for her -- that's excellent. So you'll want to be sure to have that colonoscopy. I suspect mom will push for it, eh? It's a wise thing to do, especially when you have something like that in your family. I keep thinking if Charles Schulz had had one, maybe he'd still be alive today.

I'm also a D, and I have diverticulosis. Fun stuff.

You came to the right place, here in the boards. There are a lot of terrific people here who, as you say, "understand this condition." They can help you, as they have me, and you'll get better as a result. If you haven't already gotten Heather's books, you'll want to do that.

Yes, the caffeine... I still miss it something terrible. Hubby returned to the car yesterday after doing some banking, and had a cup of coffee in his hand, then handed it to me while he got himself comfortable in the passenger side. I looked at the coffee, smelled it, and couldn't stand it, so I had a sip. Then another. BIG mistake! Luckily, there wasn't much in the cup, so I had to hand it back over to him (couldn't drink it ALL, ya know!). Ah, well, maybe I'll get over the craving one day ...

Austin is a beautiful city. I rowed Town Lake at the Nationals with my crew in 1993. (Boy, was it hot down there! We kept dunking our hats in the water to try to cool off our bodies a little.) You guys have some great bars!

Again, welcome to the boards. You'll like it here.

Bev

Here we go again - another pretty face with IBS.

Welcome to the boards and glad to hear you are doing better changing your diet.

We lived in Cedar Park for three years and moved back to WI three years ago. There alot of things we miss in Austin, except those nasty fire ants. We love to run around on the grass barefoot without worrying about the ants.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! Yes, it does get pretty hot and humid here in Dallas (and Austin). We don't have much trouble with fire ants, but they are around. I could just be used to them, lol.
