NO, I have NOT been called for jury duty......I was just thinking the other day........what would happen if I were called to Jury Duty. I think I could get excused because of the IBS-D right? Luckily I've only been called to Jury Duty once and that was when I was 18 right after I registered to vote. I was not chosen to sit on the jury thankfully. I don't know what I would do now....I know I wouldn't be able to fulfill my duty because of the IBS-D, but is it a viable excuse if you have a note from the doctor? Has anyone ever had to deal with this situation?

I sure hope it's an exceptable excuse. I have such a dread of being called to jury duty.

I had to serve on a rape case 20 years ago. Although I had IBS symptoms at the time, I didn't know it -- I just thought I had a terrible problem with gas and cramps. It was tough sitting in that jury box; I remember trying to concentrate on the case and ignoring my rumbling tummy. On the lunch breaks, I ate nothing, I was at least smart enough to know better. And deliberations were not much easier, although I could excuse myself and go to the bathroom at least.

Now that we've moved, I'm praying they don't find me -- otherwise, I think I'd just have to tell the judge the truth, that there's no way I could sit in a courtroom; if I couldn't blow, I'd explode!

I was selected once but had the Dr. write a note and sent it with my info form. Haven't been called back since. But my poor husband has been on Jury Duty and was selected again . Sue

Funny you bring this up. Four years ago in Feb. I got called but I was very pregnant and due to deliver Meike in two weeks. I called and they told me not to go and asked when I would be ready again. I told her I was a stay at home mom and I wasn't sure. She said they would call me in 5 years. So next year they will be sending me one. Supposedly we are only suppose to get out of one. I homeschool the girls and since we are trying for another baby I figure I will have the same issue of being really pregnant or nursing a baby. I was just talking to Tory about this last night and we were wondering what we will do.

BTW my sister was called to Grand Jury once, She had a newborn at tht time and said there was no way she could be put on the case. She told them they could call her back in a year. She got one exactly a year later for a regular jury and was choosen. She loved it. The guy was wrongfully accused and he cried when the verdict came back not guilty. She felt so good about it.

Hi all, I was summoned for Jury Duty this past fall. I sent my letter back with the explanation of intestinal problems and anxiety over that issue, also told them I was under a Drs. care. The excuse was accepted and I did'nt have to serve my Jury Duty. I have been called on three times to serve and was actually on a jury once, the second time I didn't get called back.
This time when the notice came it sent me into a panic, thankfully they accepted my excuse....hope they will again if it ever comes up.

Horrors! Jury duty. I was called a few months ago, but fortunately I have a legal qualification which makes me exempt from sitting on a jury. However, I'm not practising now, so I may only be able to use that excuse for the next 10 years...lol!
I'm not sure if they'd accept IBS as a valid medical reason, here in the UK. I hope it never comes to that - but I'd try anything to avoid it.
Just thinking about it fills me with dread.
