OK, his obnoxious 19 year-old technician had to do 3 impressions because she messed up the first 2 times, but otherwise it was GREAT!

The dentist went over the timeline (about 2 months from start to finish), and costs involved (4 teeth, $945 a tooth) and gave me a nice discount cos I was paying in regular cash installments, so I'M PSYCHED!

It was an upbeat appointment and he's such a nice guy about calming my fears. I know I've mentioned it before, but he's about 5'9" and 130 pounds so I know I could take him if I needed to overpower him and race out the door, paper bib flapping in the wind behind me. A very important attribute when deciding on any dentist. You HAVE to be able to overpower him!! Take note, people!

He also told me a great deal about how life has changed since my last two veneers 14 years ago, how what I paid for (it was $700 each tooth back then) meant how I was stuck with it.

He told me mow it was about $945 a tooth, and he'd include impressions and temporaries, and he wouldn't let me go until I was satisfied, even if it meant ordering 3 pairs. What a nice gesture on his part! Note to Nelly: Get this in writing.

Then the best punchline: He gave me a $94 discount per tooth!!! Supercool!

OK, I must say, I left there feeling the best I'd ever felt leaving a dentist's office.

So the process has begun. He was very interested in my Lipoma surgery 4 weeks ago, and got a big kick at looking at the picture of the tumors they took out (yes, of course I brought them in! You know me!!! ).

It made me feel special, especially with the receptionist repeatedly knocking on the partition to let him know his next patient was ready...!

*Power!*

So for One Who Hasn't Worked in an Year, coming up with the deposit meant I had to bend the powers of logic and time (postdate the check ), but I'm feeling good about my paying prowess over the last few months ("Any one want a pint of blood?" I'm a saucy O Negative who's taking a handful of opiates...? ).

Actually my mom is helping, and so is my DBF, as to what extent, I don't exactly know. So, we'll see. I remain cautiously optimistic. (maybe it's just the opiates.)

BTW, The dentist was very impressed that I shown the foresight to bring pre-dental work pictures and post-dental horror pics. He scanned the pre-dental pics and said we would use them to come up with a plan where we had an optimal focus we could shoot for. A best case scenario thing.

Guys, I'm so excited. I went through 3 1/2 years of braces hell (I defy anyone to beat what I went through) and 14 years of having fake front teeth that look like they belonged to an 80 year-old man. I don't want to look 23 again, but a 23 year-old's smile would be nothing to sneeze at (eww, flu epidemic metaphor mistake, eewwie.)

If you got all the way through the post you're AMAAAZING. Thx for continued love and support. It's nice to have other people on this ship called Madness.

Hey Nelly,

Yet another great post!! Maybe you should start writing freelance - you could definitely work from home!! I'm sure you could sell some of your stuff!! Priceless!!

Anyways, I'm glad you found a good dentist! That is sometimes the most important thing!! I sympathize about the braces - I wore them from Mar '88 to May '92, getting them off just a few days before my sweet 16! So over 4 long years - braces, retainers, head gear, the works!! I would be devastated if something happened to my pearly whites!

Hopefully you don't end up too strapped for cash from all of this!!!

Hugs, and just think, you'll be able to smile soon!!

Yay! for a positive post experience for you in the medical world! So glad that at least this went smoothly. Cassandra is absolutely right about the freelance writing - you should consider it. Can't wait to see your toothy grin in the after-pix
