I was doing soooo good with my IBS since I started acclimating to Lotronex. Unfortunately, two weeks ago I developed what turned out to be a perianal abscess! Talk about painful! It was so awful and getting worse, plus I had a raging fever so my BF took me to the ER where they drained it. That was excruciating!
So, for the last two weeks I've had to pump myself full of antibiotics. I hate antibiotics..ugh. I took 2 bactrum per day for 1 week and 4 keflex per day for 2 weeks. I develeoped pretty bad D the beginning of this week. My course of antibiotics was over on Tuesday and the D is still bad.
I know D is common with antibiotics, so I've been taking my probiotics religiously. But, what I am curious to know is if anyone has gone through this and can tell me how long the D should last? At what point should I call my doctor to complain about the D if it doesn't resolve? I've heard you can develop a form of colitis from C-Diff overgrowth and the symptom is persistent D. I am a bowel-hypochondriac, so I've got myself freaked out.
Thanks for any advice or input guys!

Try taking slippery elm to soothe your intestinal wall. After gallbladder surgery I had cronic d everyday for at least 4 hours in the morning. Two days of slippery elm and it disappeared. That was in February. Now I just have normal bouts when I eat the wrong thing.

Interesting! I'm going to the Natural Foods Co-op tonight so I'll check it out. I'm sure they carry it. Thanks. I'm doing much better today. Still not my normal BMs, but definitely more solid! I am taking probiotics (Acidophilous and Bifidus) 3x per day, instead of 1x along with my once a day dose of Align. I guess my flora is just out of whack.
