My local health food store says Calcium citrate W/D is better than Caltrate. Heather mentioned Caltrate and I have been using it with no adverse affects. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanx

Caltrate (brand name) contains a form of calcium called "calcium carbonate". Calcium citrate is a different form of calcium. (The "w/D" just means Vitamin D has been added. You can buy Caltrate with Vitamin D added, also.)

I don't think one is better than the other - each has its advantages. Here's a quick review of the differences between calcium carbonate and calcium citrate:

And here's my understanding about which type is best for C and which for D:

calcium citrate is good if you're constipated (Citracal)

calcium carbonate is good if you have diarrhea:
Tums (but they have mineral oil)
Caltrate
OsCal
Viactiv (but most - perhaps all - flavors have dairy)

HTH.
