I decided over the weekend I was going to stop taking Effexor. I was so tired of the up and down effect I was experiencing. I would feel nasty side effects, then take the pills and feel better, and then crash again and feel awful. I was down to 12 mg of regular Effexor. Saturday I just said "enough!" and resolved just to tough it out and quit. I called today and checked with my Dr. and he said I can try it.
I suppose I feel 'okay.' I am not feeling as awful as I did when I tried to get off of it at 37.5 mg of Effexor XR. I am experiencing the brain zaps periodically as well as dizziness. I am also getting hot flashes and some gastrointestinal upset (mainly gas and some uncomfortable intestinal feelings.)
It's icky. Can't wait until it's over! I am hoping that it doesn't last 10 days, but I am prepared to battle it out if it does.
Anyway, enough rambling! My question for you is when you quit taking it, did your IBS flare up? Like I said, I feel a bit of an upset, but not sure if it's diet related or not. I ate really safe yesterday but who knows?

Yay! I'm so proud of you. As much as it sucks, you really just needed to STOP taking it! Since I'm a C, I felt a HUGE wave of IBS relief when I stopped taking the Effexor. My C went away almost instantaneously, so I can imagine you might be having D issues. Maybe up your SF for a few days until you think the withdrawal period is over? Sounds like it's going fairly well, so hang in there!
Good luck!!

Thanks for the encouragement! I am feeling much better now. It's day 4 of no effexor. I am mostly feeling dizzy spells and those weird brain zaps from time to time
Work is really stressing me out this week, so it's making my IBS act up. I don't think the withdrawal is affecting me as much IBS-wise anymore. The first two days were rough with that.
I can't tell you how happy I am to be kicking these meds! I am sure you can relate

Six days later..the symptoms are definitely getting much better! Again, thanks for your encouragement.
Stress is out of control right now, so my tummy is grumbly and upset I don't think it's from withdrawal anymore. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.
