I have a question for you if you don't mind. Were you on your birth control pills for 16 years straight. I am having some medical problems right now and am thinking about going off the pill because of it. I am under 30 but I have been on the pill for almost 12 years straight. I am worried about what will happen when I do.

A few words of wisdom, test at the same time everyday, the best time is mid afternoon and try to limit the amount of fluid you intake so as not to dilute your urine.
I've been testing the same time every day but in the morning. Why are afternoons better? I went with mornings becuase that's typically the only time I haven't poured a tin of water in my system.
We're still BD-ing around when we think we ought to anyway regardless of what the tests read, just in case. And in retrospect, we've been right on with timing.

The hormone that the tests measure (luteinizing hormone) does not making into the urine until the afternoon--something to that effect.
And I think it's crucial that you're still engaging regularly regardless of what the OPK says. I'm one of those who rarely (if ever) got postitive OPKs, but my temps told me I was ovulating regularly.

Hi - just wanted to comment on the birth control question. I was on for 10 years straight. I came off and had much heavier periods but was very regular which surprised me. My doctor said it could of taken a year to start to ovulate. So I was worried because I'm also almost 34. It took about 9 mos of trying and I was really shocked it didn't take longer. It's just weird not having my period.
So far stomach is good, but I hate to jinx it.

I started the pill just before I turned 16 and took it continuously until I was 33. When I stopped it, I was worried as well but it was a piece of cake. I got my next period exactly 28 days later. I had more cramping than usual but nothing to crazy. It was a little heavier than usual but again, no huge deal. I ovulated right away without any problems. In between miscarriages, I was very regular.
All the doctors insist that me taking the pill for as long as I did, did not cause my miscarriages or any of my healthy issues now. In fact, this last fall, I went back on the pill because I started getting migraines and they were worse with my period so I skip my periods now. I am also on very toxic drugs so pregnancy must be avoided at the moment.

I'm sure I've probably said this before, but I had problems coming off the pill after 9.5 years of taking it. I did not ovulate for about three months, and then when I did start to ovulate, I would spot for about a week before my period. In addition, I started to have anxiety attacks, which I had never experienced in my life. (I'm actually not sure if "anxiety attack" is the right term, but my body would feel physically anxious--tense, shallow breathing, etc.--even if I was not worried about a thing.)
I don't blame the pill for my problems. I just think it masked whatever hormonal problems I did have going on while I was taking it.

Melissa,
I know you don't like to post a lot so you don't get too obsessed, but I was just wondering how you're doing? Has your body started to get regular? Have you talked to your Dr.? Any luck with the opks?
My body is so out of whack this month after taking a break from all the fertility drugs. I have been lighthly spotting on and off for the last week, even though I wouldn't expect AF until tomorrow. On the bright side, seeing anything w/o being on meds is a huge improvement for me. Even if it's just a tiny bit. I see my RE on Tuesday for bloodwork - progesterone level test. We'll see what that shows. I should be starting bc soon. Hopefully that will at least balance out my hormones a bit. Thurs. we have our full IVF consult. I'm anxious to get all of the details. About 6 weeks to go until I start stimulation for IVF. For now I'm just waiting and enjoying my drug-free (well, fertility drug-free anyway) life. I've applied for 9 jobs. I'm waiting to hear back about interviews. Hopefully that will happen soon.
Good luck to you!

Hey Mary,
No luck yet here. My cycles seems to be more regular but still not all the way there. I was supposed to start my period today but haven't as of yet. Of course, I couldn't resist testing - negative. But I don't feel like I am going to start my period any time soon. I have an appt with my OBGYN the beginning of July. I'll go over things with her then.
Keep me posted on how things go at your appointments.
