I've only been 'out' 4 times in 3 months - two doctors visits, one hockey weekend trip and once to my BFs parents who live just 10 minutes away - all were really stressful and involved hours and hours sitting on the toilet, a whole lot of stress-induced poop and quite a bit of pain. (I've also made the 30 minute trip between my parents and my BF's a couple of times, but there's 6 toilets evenly spread out on the trip and each time i've stopped at 4 ).
I've kind of hand a burst of energy the past few days, and I'm determined to start getting better. I start my hypnotherapy sessions on the 10th May, but even just getting there will be hard and I'm stressed about it already (about a 2hr 30min trip, with no toilets for about 60 mins), so I need to start doing something to help me on my way.
But I don't know how to start! I don't know anyone that's been housebound before, for any reason, and I'm really scared about the whole thing - so pathetic but true. At the moment I can't even go to the little food store a 2 minute walk away as the minute I walk through the door I get stressed that I'll get stuck in a queue at the counter and I run home!
So (a) what should my first steps be, and (b) how do I start to believe in myself that I CAN do it? What were your experiences? Did you have any failures - like walks you couldn't finish, etc? It's been like this for so long now that I just don't know how to change it. I'm in pain just about all day, and my stomach is never calm - always bubbling, and if I wasn't taking a few Immodium a day I'd be on the toilet with D for hours and hours.
Help!!

Blondie, did you check out the hypnosis board, above? In it you'll find our success stories. Michael is AWESOME! He is the reason I was finally able to leave the confines of my home and venture out. Now I'm stable and go anywhere with no problem. Michael's program is on CDs, and you do it in the comfort of your home, away from any kind of noise or stress, at the same time and in the same place every night. I used to do it in my recliner; hubby would take the dog for a walk for a half hour while I turned off the phone and "chilled out" with Michael. Now, several years later, whenever I curl up in my recliner, I fall asleep almost immediately. Like I said, he's awesome!
The program costs $100, well worth it! By the way, Michael is in England. (It did take me awhile to get used to his strong accent; at first I didn't know what he was saying! Speak English, man! )
You should check out Michael's CDs; they are SOOOOOO worth the money!

When my IBS was at its worst I was the same way as you. I drove to work and then straight home and didn't leave my house any other time for any other reason. In fact...I spent an extra half hour driving to work so I wouldn't have to take the highway (in case I had to use the washroom along the way and couldn't exit in time).
I started by taking walks.
First just try a walk around your street (where you can run home real fast if need be)....then as you get more comfortable walk a little farther, etc. That helped me tremendously.
After you get a little more comfortable then you can start taking real outtings.
Hang in there....it does get better and I'm sure once you start hypnosis you'll feel even better!!
