Why do you have to clean for Passover?

Sorry; that's a totally ignorant question, but I am curious.

I guess that must be the Jewish equivelant of Christmas cleaning.
Have a nice holiday.

Hmmm...I hate cleaning at all times--not just for holidays.

I hate watching my cleaning lady clean.

Cleaning reminds me of how much of a dust bunny I've become.

No wonder I'm popping allergy pills, getting shots, and using my inhaler more.

Okay, I'm dirty--I used to be obsessively compulsively, i.e. to the point of bleeding and bruising and not sleeping for weeks due to my cleaning issue. However...I am chemically masking that issue and pay someone so I don't need to care so much about dust and filth and grime and dirt.

from reading posts on this last year that passover cleaning involves removing all traces of bread/grain from the house and is very heavy work- is there something about only being able to do some element at night too...I'm sure Avidan/Amie or someone who knows for real will not keep us in the dark too long!

removing all traces of leavened breads from the house.. anything that might have leavening, etc.. and also removing any contaminated dishes, etc.. and putting in place the passover replacements.. and cleaning the things that can be sterilized to switch... thankfully I have a lot fo that and a good scrub then the dishwasher on pot scrubber is enough for me, but I go by a more lenient tradition in many ways then avidan and Sarala (ruchie) so I am sure they are busier.. though Sarala was suprised that I did most of my cleaning over the weekend and started baking, but I can't take time off work and that was when I had time!

Wow--that involves some serious organization!!! Pardon my ignorance involving this matter, please. I suspect that there is a master kind of checklist?

and now I'm down to the last day. I began buying Passover foods (foods containing no rye, oats, spelt, leavening, beans, corn, rice) 3 weeks ago. Then you have to get rid of all the food listed above and put it somewhere or sell it. It's a BIG ordeal and it is very time consuming. You have to "turn over" your whole house (not just the kitchen) and make meals with the stuff you bought containing none of the "offending:" ingredients. Then you eat this way for a week. I LOVE Passover The prep is hard...but well worth it when all is said and done

Yeah, I have to get rid of all my leavened products, and in a college dorm room that's very hard. In fact, I'm not cleaning my kitchen area and am relying instead on the "I can't see it during the holiday" rule and am covering about half my room with shower curtains.

As for the night thing that Sinead was talking about, that's actually tonight. The night before the holiday we look for some pieces of bread around the house with a wooden spoon, feather, and light. It's sounds weird, but such is life.

Anyway, besides the room, I have to deal with a number of homework assignments since I'm missing quite a bit of class. So...bleah.
