Hey all,
So have gas prices shot way back up everywhere, or just where I am?? In Vancouver, they are at $1.125 per litre (so $4.218 per gallon) CDN. We both opted to take public transport today, even though the car is much more relaxing for a commute because we just can't keep affording the gas!! I keep waiting for it to go down, but I read something on the weekend that says they are expecting it at $1.20/ltr soon!
Oh my!

They didn't think we'd notice or what? Just because they haven't been blasting about it in the media? We're not stupid. I guess we are suppose to just "accept" this as the new price? Compared to what??? It's still outrageous

Already at $2.56/gallon and being told it is heading UP! We are cutting back on all trips that are not entirely necessary! Grocery prices are reflecting the rise in shipping too...everything is skyrocketing! It is kind of scary if you ask me. One hurricane hits the gulf this summer, and I can't imagine!!!

It's really sad - I can easily remember paying 89 cents a gallon when I bought my first car, not even 10 years ago... now I get excited when gas drops below $2.50/gallon. It's well above that here now. I just don't go anywhere anymore, on days that I have the car - we can't afford it, and we don't have public transportation here. *shrug*

It's over a dollar here. Yikes! It's not supposed to go down either.

Yeah, they were about $1.05 or something here yesterday, but I haven't been out today to see if they've gone higher. It's terrible...it's only early spring, what are they going to be like in the summer? For any Canadians...I highly recommend applying for the Citibank Petro-Canada Mastercard...if you have Petro Canadas in your area. You save 2cents/litre every time you fill up with it and earn Petro Points which you can use towards gas. There is no annual fee so as long as you pay off the balance, it doesn't cost you anything, and with gas prices being so high, even two cents is nice to save.

I'm scared! I can hardly afford groceries and rent now. Yipes! It's gonna be an expensive summer.
Have you guys seen the emails about boycotting Exxon and Mobile? Which places are associated with Exxon?

Its $3.15 around here in NY... Its all pure speculation. I work in the finance industry and the commodities traders are bullish on oil because of the Iran standoff as well as troubles in Nigeria. In addition all fuel is to be mixed with ethanol now which requires a conversion. That means less gas while everyone converts. Also you have refineries from Katrina that won't go back online until June. ALso Americans are to blame as well. Most of us drive our gas guzzler SUVs (inlcuding myself) and expect oil and gas to remain the same. Demand has not waned even with high gas prices. Add all that up and you have record HIGH gas prices! Give this time though, it WILL affect the economy in a negative way. It just takes time.

It's insane, indeed. I'm so glad I have a short commute to work.
We have public transportation, but I have to admit I've never used it here.
Awhile back, I was curious how much gas was 10 years ago, so I dug out a paper I did in grad school on the history of gas stations and looked at the photos. Gas was $1.15. Doesn't that sound just heavenly now?
