Some parts of it really didn't hurt much. Other parts made me want to run screaming out of the place. It took about 12 or 13 hours to do. After a while you stop caring about much it hurts and you just want it done. The guy who did it is fantastic. I don't think I'll ever go to anyone else now.

It's a pic of the one on my daughter, but mine is almost exactly the same. On her 18th B-day(almost 4 yrs ago) we put this tatoo on both of our backs, it's one she designed. Mine is different that it has the first initial of each of my four kids in it. It was the first tat for both of us. Later, I went and added some color and made it a little bigger.

I think it was 4 or 5 sessions. If you're in the Bay area the guy who did it isn't too far from you. He's in Roseville, Ca. He mostly does custom pieces and has a waiting list. No big surprise there. If you want more info on him let me know.

Well, Tattoo Artists will generally tell how they feel about anything in my expereince, whether it be missing an appointment or anything else. If she's really good, I'd go back. I'm sure it will be fine. Just let know why you missed it. And definately call to let them know when you can't make it. They guy I went to works at "Something Wicked". His name is Steve'O. He has about a 2 month waiting list, too. And a $60 reservation. It goes toward the cost of your tattoo, of course. 126 Riverside Ave, Roseville, 95678 - (916) 781-7827 I'm pretty sure he co-owns. Rate is $120/hour but usually if you do a few hours of work (or more) he'll charge $100/hour. He's a really sweet guy. The shop is clean and organized and customer friendly. I got my husband to go to him for his first tattoo and now he's hooked. And neither of us want to go to anyone else to have any work done anymore.

IF I were to ever choose getting one THAT one would be it. That looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome! You'll have to take a pic of yours. I'd be interested to see how they incorporated letters into yours!!!

I love it too, especially since I know it was something my daughter designed. Contrary to how it looks, it does not say satan. My kids initials are A, T, K, N, but because of the placement between the two S like designs, at a glance that's how it looks. So here's mine...
And here's my daughters again for comparison...

I had gotten the tribal part of this tattoo several years ago with a shooting star through it and it just didn't turn out well. I knew I wanted a phoenix. So I spent some time shopping around and looking at thousands of photos of other tattoos. And I asked people whenever I saw work I liked who did theirs. After about three years I found an artist whose work I had seen on someone else. I met with him and told him basically what I wanted included but then gave him free license with design. I actually had something a little different in mind but when I saw what he had designed I loved it. He's very good. Everything he does turns out beautifully and he's great at making designs feminine or masculine and designing tattoos to fit the body that they're on. There are all kinds of stories on what the phoenix represents and I've yet to find one I don't like. The lotus/water part came from a dream I had.

I have these tattoos on my lower back. There's really no story behind my butterfly tattoo...I just thought it was pretty. The Chinese symbol means mother.

I can't get Satan out of that? Did someone tell you it looked like those letters? Very nice, however, (don't be mad )but I think I like it better without color like your daughters. Is she adding color to hers?

i think she added some not long after I did. BTW, that's great that you can't see it! When I was looking at it printed on the paper after he drew it in there, I saw it. I turned it around to show him and my daughter and asked what they saw and the tatooist immediately said, "oh wait, I can fix that", I just told him to leave it. I liked the way it looked anyway.

I have 11, but a few of them really suck, so until I get them covered or embellished or something, I won't be showing those off.
bluebirds on my chest
lily on my arm - freshly done, hence the red and swelling!
butterfly, my birthday tattoo from last year
art nouveau on my right leg
edward gorey cats on my left leg... i just got these done last week... and once again, this is a freshly-done picture, hence the redness and weirdness.
"of" on my ankle, as part of the skin project (and one awesome pair of shoes, haha)

I liken it to someone poking a sunburn repeatedly. When the tattoo's done, the pain stops too. And the upper arms and calves usually have enough padding on them that you hardly feel a thing.
Besides... we women are tough. LOL! I've seen guys pass out getting spots tattooed that I sat through with no problem, and I really don't have a high pain tolerance at all.
Not trying to convince you or anything - just reassuring if you ever decide to go for it.

I love Gorey. I had a hard time deciding what to do... I have a feeling this won't be my last Gorey tattoo. Wouldn't a whole Gorey sleeve just *rock*? Hmm...

I love the blue birds and the lily. Beautiful. I like them all but those two really caught my eye. Seeing fresh work done makes me jealous. I want to get another but I have to wait a bit and make a car payment instead. Oh, and I love the shoes.
