This is one I wrote for my daughter when she was a baby. I don't propose to be e.e cummings or Leonard Cohen, but like to write...
Daughter
Delicate tiny hands Grasping awkwardly at hair Aroma of baby powder Dancing through the air
Wonderful lashes long Batting, eyes gazing into mine Gummy toothless smiles Melt my heart each time
Hair of gold so fine No mortal can hope to tame Skin of silk, pale as ivory No fault, no hate, no shame
A gift unparalleled to any This child has brought such bliss A mother and father eternally thankful For their daughter's sweet kiss
Copywright Shannon Webb. Yes, it's published out there somewhere. They wouldn't send me the book. If you've read it, tell me where it is!!Funny thing is, I barely scrawled it down for poetry.com, and they wanted to publish it in two books. i didn't even freaking edit the thing! But writing isn't my passion.....
Anyone else write?

As a teenager, you could not stop me! I was relentless in my free verse poetry.
Then I went to college and got a degree in English, and now my "cruel inner critic" makes it hard for me to write. Nothing is good enough.
Besides, without all that teenage angst, it's a lot harder to get inspired.
Your poem is very sweet.

Christine, I have to laugh a little at that. I am the same way! I don't have a degree in English, but most of my "inspiration" seemed to go away once I was in college too. Darn maturing and becoming better adjusted! :
I do miss it, though. I still keep a journal, but it's not the same as writing poems. I keep thinking when I retire, maybe I'll be able to write then...of course, retirement is several decades away!

I did 90+ poems in the teen years. And add to that about 10 in the last ten, LOL!

I wrote pretty constantly between the ages of 10 and 18. I've never counted, but I've got a 3 inch binder full of stuff. But, that counts all my rough drafts, too.
Maybe for giggles, I'll post something of mine later this weekend. I'll post one early poem and then something college-era.
Just the other day, I came across a cache of stuff I wrote early in college. Some of it made me laugh and one or two things brought me face to face with some stuff that was pretty earth-shaking for me at the time. You know, that stuff that hits you so hard when you're 18-20 that you think you'll never forget it but eventually, you do, at least for awhile.

I wrote this when I was 10.
I Wish
I wish, I wish I had a very rare Fish That swims in a glass Dish One that would eat all That mushy, mashy mess Of that warm mush they Call oatmeal Then I could pass to school With ease And not have to sneeze The oatmeal up Into a cup In the nurse's office While everyone else is In line with their Purses For Lunch

This one I wrote when I was a freshman in college and almost 19. The Gulf War really scared the crap out of me and my friends.
CNN (Live)
Live, from Baghdad Reporters call Live, from Jerusalum Missiles fall Live, from sealed room, Cameras on Gasmasks donned Live, from USA A nation clusters around TV sets Live, from campus Thinkers rally at protests Live from shaken soul Fear, hatred, anger/anger Thses images that Leave me cold
Not my best work, but this is one that I'd forgotten I wrote and reminded me of all that passion you feel at that age.

Poe and my brother Frank. If I can find them on my other computer I will post some that I did. They were all on discs that are in storage somewhere.

Yeah, it was a scary time, no doubt, and so passionate. Mine were mostly about boys,lol...all about love poems. Maybe I can write about my abuse and it would make me feel better...I feel some therapy coming!!
