Wow. Wed a.m. I got up early to say good luck to a friend who was going in for surgery. A few mins. later I didn't feel good, got real hot and weak and passed out. Next I knew the cops were putting oxygen on me. My pottasium was REALLY low. I was on pills and i.v. all that day and then at supper time I came down with "D". That isn't good when you are hooked up to machines. Anyway..... I am rehydrated, back home and only lost one item of clothing. Unfortunately it was Richie's t-hirt that I sleep in. They "said" they looked for it. yeah, right. Life sucks ... then you get D.

So it was the low potassium that caused you to pass out? Why were you low on potassium? You ain't been gettin' yer bananas and potatoes lately?
Hubby passed out once because of low potassium, but he was training for cycling at the time, and totally oblivious to his nutrients, eating a jar of peanut butter a week just to try to keep his weight up.
You been trainin' too hard, have ya?
Too bad about that "T" shirt, but frankly, that's the least of your worries. Right now, just GET BETTER. And maybe fix yerself a baked potato?

Oh my, I'm so sorry. I hope your feeling better now. I have a mental picture of you hooked up to 50 zillion things and trying to get to the potty in a hurry!

... and NOT making it. They made my bed 3 or 4 times that night.

cheap S.O.B.'s say that bananas are too expensive. I am going to make sure I get some though. The grocery store is within walking distance. We have potato, but mostly is is instant mashed, which isn't that great. At least now I have a reason for feeling so tired lately.
I take a diuretic so the Drs. said that depleted me. The big fight I had with the owners a few weeks ago was partly about not getting any fresh fruit. I guess I showed them, huh?

I don't know how much acess you have to a freezer but bananas don't stay ripe long... HOWEVER... I make my son popsicles out of yogurt, bananas, and pineapple juice. He loves them, eats at least one a day. You could make a batch and not have to worry about the bananas going bad on you.
Regardless, HUGS!

So sorry to hear about your hospital experience. Hopefully you are doing much better now.
I remember when I had appendicitis and they took my appendix out in emergency surgery. Afterwards, I was hooked up to several IV's with the bags hanging on a pole. I had to "GO" and pressed for the nurse.....well, no nurse came. I just had to sit on the edge of my bed and unplug the darn machine ( in terrible pain from just being stitched up) and roll the poles with IV bags down to the bathroom cause I just couldn't wait. I'm sure you know what I mean.
Anyway, all turned out well and I recovered.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

Glad to hear your ordeal is over. My husband is on a couple of very strong diuretics, so I know what you mean about all of this. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids, because my husband really dries out fast on these diuretics. And, he's had nocturnal leg cramps from a lack of potassium, also related to the taking of his pills. Can you take potassium supplements? Goodness, you were in a heck of a state for awhile there, but glad you're okay now!

Thanks. Yes, I am on a supplement now. In the hosp. they were giving me 8 pills a day that looked like big yellow M&M's. I will be on them for a week then have a blood test to see how the levels are.

Oh no, Carol! I was so shocked to hear you ended up in the hospital. And I'm sorry that you lost Richie's t-shirt - I know how much it meant to you. However, I'm glad you're back home and getting better.

Take it easy. I've been there (i.e. hospitalized for dehydration/low potassium). Get some sleep.
Kate.
