Hi All ~I posted it on the diet board but now wondering if it was the wrong board so posting it here.
I've had IBS for years now and still I am finding it really hard to accept that I have it and look after myself. I keep eating foods that I know are bad for me and just lately I am feeling so exhausted from work and having bad IBS attacks.
How did you come to terms with your IBS and learn to take care of yourself?
I don't want to face up to the fact I can't eat what I used to and that eating what I used to is so unhealthly anyway.
Please give me some words of wisdom I am really struggling right now. Thanks Niki xxx

It's pretty hard. I guess until you're relatively stable, it's always going to be a pain in the butt (litetrally!).
If you avoid your triggers and take good care of yourself when you do have attacks, that's all you can do. I am pretty stable and I found myself on the toilet this morning before work with a bad attack. I am still not feeling well right now (7 hours later). So I am sipping my peppermint tea and am going to have a bland dinner tonight. What can you do!?

I don't really have any words of wisdom, per se. Sooner or later, you'll just accept that this is the way it is, and that your diet and lifestyle HAVE to change, permanently. I know it's a pain until you get to that point, but I've found that the best thing is to count your blessings. I mean, it could be SO much worse. (I have a relative who's dying of cancer right now, and let me tell you, if all I have to "worry" about is the fact that I'll never be able to eat onion rings or ice cream ever again, I've got it pretty d*mn good.)
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but it's really just one of those things you have to accept. Learn to love the food you CAN eat. That will be a huge help, trust me.

Thank you all for your support it means a lot. I am blessed with what I have in my life and I realise I need to concentrate on that not on what I cannot eat.
