I have been ok! The weather has been cooperating so it has been awfully sunny out lately. I usually get it bad in Jan./Feb.
How are you?

Well, my Angelfood cake stuck/burnt...it's a little extra crispy. Next time, I will ignore the instruction not to "grease" the pan and use a little Pam.
Yes, I'm surving. I either sleep of the SAD or just read. It's really silent hear. Just me and the sounds of the house.

Yes, those are the worst months. I literally hibernate. I cry all the time then, as well, if I don't fly away somewhere. Honestly, when it gets really bad, I just sleep off the SADness. It's like I go through the classic symptoms of grieving. Weird.

I'm really fighting the depression today. It's dark and snowy and foggy and I just feel like crying all day. I tried getting out, but it just worked against me. I'm so lonely and sad. It's gonna be a long winter because this doesn't usually hit me until January.

Awww, sweetie. Have you ever considered investing in one of those fancy artificial lights? My brother has SAD and swears by them. He also always tries to take the bus in the morning at the time where he can get the most sunlight. Can't hurt, he says.

Lately, during the wee hours of the morning, I just watch the light peek through my black curtains. It really does help. The days are dark and gray.
I think Cost Co. sells those light boxes...maybe I'll put it on my Christmas list. My doctor wants me to get one. Truly--everyday during the SAD season, I cry uncontrollabley. I sleep all afternoon (awakening at 11 a.m., only to break fast at noon and lately crash all afternoon having nothing to do and no where to go. The t.v. irritates me/nauseates me. I have migraines too.) One year, I even stopped eating for over three months, with the exception of popsicles.
I have a problem taking buses as I fall asleep on them. My anxiety is too high to drive.
Kate.

Where do you buy those lights from? I don't have a Costco by me, like Wind. Any ideas? Aren't they really expensive too? I think they call them Light Boxes.
This is also something I could add to my Christmas list if mom isn't done with me yet. She's an early shopper!
This is seriously why I am considering moving to someplace where there is no winter. SAD has been a problem for me since I was little.

and another thing to possibly try is a dawn simulator. I was telling Nelly the other day, I'm taking a chronobiology class, and we've talked about SAD since it's a circadian rhythm problem and that's what my class is about. Dawn simulators are alarm clocks that gradually brighten a light for the 30 minutes or so before the alarm goes off, simulating sunrise. It helps with SAD by waking you more naturally, and exposing your photoreceptors to light.
I don't know where to find them though, I came across some on a Google search, but they're a little pricey. If you have a SAD diagnosis, maybe insurance can help? I'm not sure.

I'll ask my doctor about them. I doubt my insurance will pay for it (it's pretty lousy insurance), but it's worth a try. And I don't have 100's of dollars to spend on them either, which I think they cost over 200 dollars.

I suffer terribly from SAD. But not this year! (Yet) We moved from Northern Utah to the southern tip of Texas. I think that's what's delaying my SAD because the sun is still shining and it's 80+ degrees. I've been spending more time outside during the day than I did in the cold. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Hopefully things will stay this way.
Love,
Jamie

In the winter, it gets really dark early, there is lack of sun all day, and long gray days of winter.
So, those who are sensitive to the light for feeling better, can get really depressed during the long gray winter days.
Tis the "season" for this disorder! Thus, Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D.)

I've been having a good day today (bad yday, but good today!) and I'm trying to mind my sleep cycle and not nap at 2pm, get up at the same time, etc. It's hard when there's no motivation to get up!
I tried to go out and get some sunlight Friday and I had 3 mAJOR asthma attacks due to the cold weather... the only way I can be outside in this freezing cold is to have a bunch of pumps off of my inhaler (I have cold weather and sports induced asthma), plus a wadded-up towel or scarf shoved in my face and nose to warm the air I breathe! I ended up puking 3 times (1ce in the sink, 2ce outside) from the attacks. I was really dumb to keep going outside!!!
But Saturday and today have been much better. I've been keeping warm and playing scrabble with BF for the last 4 hours (I'm up 3 games to 1, with 1 tie! )!

I hope you continue kicking the bf's booty!

for some reason i had been feeling really down lately too probably the holiday season--ive been listening to the holiday station and everytime i hear a "moving" song that gives me goosebumps, i start to cry. my mom decided the last night visiting our old house before she left my dad would be xmas eve after our candle-light church service. we only scooped up my 2 cats before we headed back to her new home. since then i havent had any really good or special holiday memories to remake that last painful one in 2003 so ive been especially weepy. its weird b/c i cant really pinpoint what i want to make myself feel better yah know? but i understand about feeling like crying all the time. sometimes i just want to fall down and curl into a ball and cry..or hide and cry too. i am sending a lot of hugs your way b/c you sound like you need more then one. dont worry im sure it will get better and things will feel okay soon. i keep telling myself that and if xmas comes and the special people in my life get smiles on their faces b/c of me, then i guess it makes it all worth while. feel totally free to email me if you ever want to ashlynwondrland@yahoo.com we're both in chicago!! do you ever go downtown around xmas time? thats always something i love to do and used to do too. its always special to see the town in lights and snow. hang in there pal
