Ok all, I just had to share this with everyone. Last night, I actually got up the courage and went swimming at a public pool in front of other people! This was a really big deal for me so I'm pretty proud of myself. Turned out pretty good too, it was a beautiful pool and I went to a late-night adult-only swim so there were only like 10 of us in an Olympic size pool. I forgot how much I love to swim

However, I woke up this morning with a really bad pain in my left back...definately feels muscular...it was terrible when I woke up and is slowly loosening so I assume maybe I pulled something swimming. Just wondering, what does everyone think about whether or not I can still exercise today? I figured I should skip the weight training in case it's really hurt, but I normally go for long power-walks and figured that would probably be ok. Opinions would be great

Yay!! I'm proud of you! I take an after work water aerobics class at the local ymca and love it! Its odd that something should hurt after because the water is so low impact. I'd probably be sure to stretch extra well and you could probably still power walk as long as it doesn't seem to make the pain worse. Its it is a muscle spasm, than the exercise might help loosen it up, just don't over do it!

I know, I thought that since swimming was no-impact it'd be pretty hard to hurt myself, but I think I just overdid it. It was an olympic size pool so they were long laps, and I was primarily doing front-stroke and it's the side of my back on the side that I breathe. Plus, I was of course concerned about people watching me so I wanted to be the fastest and stuff (stupid, I know) so I probably just did too much Will be more careful next time.

Hey Girlfriend!

Great news about the swimming! I was hoping you'd do it.

My back goes out on me all the time. As you know, I've been icing it the past week. That's the trick: ICE IT! The icing reduces the swelling. I also take 3 Ibuprofen tablets (with food) to help reduce the swelling. And, above all, DON'T lift weights! Oy. Just ice it, take the Ibuprofen, and lie on the floor on your back with your legs raised 90-degrees on a foot stool or a chair seat (in an "L" position) with an ice pack (or bag of frozen peas) in the small your back for at least 20 minutes. It feels SOOOOOOO soothing!

My back finally healed in a week, so I'm back in the kayak! Yippeee! Soon you'll be back in the pool. I'm SOOOO happy for you, Girlfriend! I knew you had it in you.

YOU GO, GIRL!
