HI everyone!
I am sure glad to have come across this website! I have just been through 4 weeks of torture! I have been diagnosed as having IBS. I have always had tummy problems but nothing like the past month. I am slowly feeling better with the help of buscopan, modulan and amitriptaline. I feel overloaded with questions and concerns.
Thanks to the recipes...I have been eating better. I am cautious of what I eat and check the cheat sheet all the time.
I look forward to chatting with you all.

Welcome! Don't worry. We all felt overwhelmed. It will take time but you WILL feel better. Just be patient with yourself. It takes a while to get the hang of this - learning about triggers, learning your own tolerances. Ask away with those questions! We're here for you and what's more - we've BEEN THERE. Hugs, Alicia.

Thanks for the pep talk!
I appreciate your kind words.
It is nice to know that there is this message board.
I have to say that tonight I took a huge step. (I have been eating small portions of rice or boiled potatoes for the last couple of days to try and get my tummy back in gear.) But tonight, I had a break through!
I had a chicken sandwich on sourdough bread with a soy mayonnaise.
I am not a fish eater so my choices of meal menus are kinda limited.

And I survive JUST fine on this diet. Give it a chance. Once you feel better, trust me, you will not feel as bad about giving up things. It's WORTH IT!!!!!!!!! You WILL feel better. Hugs, Alicia.

Well...funny that yesterday I was almost bragging about eating a chicken salad sandwich with lettuce, tomato and soy mayonnaise and today I am feeling yucky!....argh!......I also had white toast with a smidgen of peanut butter this morning....could that of triggered a tummy ache???....I am getting desperate here...I go a couple of days feeling great....and then a whopping tummy ache strikes....8-(...
What is the secret to fighting the tummy ache once it starts?....

I can't understand how people cannot like seafood. My husband says anyone who doesn't like it hasn't had it fresh. (I wouldn't eat the frozen stuff either! It's nasty!)

I could eat seafood every day ---and never get tired of it. I love it all---fish, shrimp, oysters, crawfish, crabs, lobster, etc.

Yum! I'm making myself hungry.

Yup, I just polished off a big plate of sushi, and I always say that I could have seafood for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight snack and be very happy. It's my favorite food group, hands down! (fins down?)

I'm impressed. How did you learn how to do that? Where do you get the fresh ingredients? I've only eaten it at restaurants!!!!!! What kind do you make? Do your kids like it too?

(You're not using tadpoles and frogs for it, are you?)

We have an asian food store near us and one day my friend and I got a wild hair, bought everything we needed and started rolling!

I usually make the rolls with the cream cheese, avocado, cucumber and crab...I use other ingredients but that is my favorite. I love smoked salmon and cream cheese, I think they call that the Philadelphia roll.

I watch the sushi guys at Target or Central Market out here and even ask them questions. Oddly enough most of them are Korean and sushi is a Japanese staple! I lived in Japan as a young girl so I'll eat just about anything asian. I love Vietnamese and Thai food too.

I had the most wonderful experience today! I took my kids to the neighborhood pool and there was a little chinese baby there...she had been in the US for only two weeks! I got to hold little Willow...she is so petite and just adorable. I wanna go to China and get me a baby!

that says, "I like cats. They taste like chicken."

My husband, who wouldn't dare put a bumper sticker on his car, swears everytime he sees this (at a convenience store) that he's going to buy this one and put it on his car.

Yeah, right! He's all talk!

Speaking of bumper stickers, have you seen any funny ones lately?

My favorite is:

"I'm not speeding . .. I'm qualifying!"

(For those of you who don't get it, this is referring to qualifying for a NASCAR race. We live near Lowe's Motor Speedway so NASCAR is extremely popular here.)

I laugh out loud every time I see this one!

Ok, so now you all think I'm a big redneck. I don't put bumper stickers on my car, but I sure like to read them while on the highway.

I actually just acquired a sushi rolling mat from my bro and SIL (someone gave it to them as a gift and she is allergic to fish so they have no use for it). I am dying to go over to whole foods, buy some sushi grade tuna, and go for it. Do you reccommend any cookbooks or do you just wing it?

OMG, how can anyone hate seafood? I am dying for some nice fresh fish, or clams, or anything like that. I grew up on Cape Cod and I really miss the food.
We had soggy fish sticks, tater tots, and mixed veggies for lunch. UGH ... school lunches were better.

The sushi recipe I use is found on the back of the nori (seaweed) packahe. It is super simple and loads of fun to make. Granted your first few rolls look really silly but they still taste good!

Once you put the sushi-su (rice vinegar mixture) into the rice, let the rice cool and it makes it easier to form and the seaweed doesn't wilt.

You can fill it with anything...cucumber, cream cheese, scrambled eggs-cook it in a pan like a crepe...the possibilities are endless!

The ladies in my church want me to have a sushi rolling party...I can't wait to do that but we will have to until I am totally unpacked!

Happy Sushi!
