Hey Guys,
I know about heat stroke but I know there can be lesser heat-related illnesses. I"m a little concerned because I've been exercising a lot outside and we're in the middle of a bad heat wave. I take precautions, dress lightly and drink lots of water and Kool-Aid Sports Water (I don't like it but it replinishes electrolytes) but today when I got home my legs were cramping really badly and my skin gets very red and clammy.
Does anyone know how to tell if you're having a heat-problem? All I know is when I come back from exercising, I usually have bad cramping and I find I can't tolerate my usual hot shower.
Also, do you guys exercise in the heat? I mean, I see a lot of other people out exercising too and they seem ok. It's about 40 degrees celsius here with the humidex and we are under a smog advisory warning. I have mild asthma so I take my inhaler with me and figure that's good enough. What do you guys think?
Thanks, Kelly

Heat exhaustion. If I remember it right heat ex, is when you feel like you did. Heat stroke your body is hot and DRY. Heat stroke is the bad one. You sound dehydrated. I can barely walk in the heat let alone excercise .. whew I'm sweaty just thinking about it.

and the heat and humidity are killing me!! You're almost definitely experiencing heat stress. What kind of exercise do you do outside? Make sure you drink lots of water, and something like gatorade (if you can tolerate) to keep your electrolytes in balance. This is very key. What's in that kool-aid stuff? Does it replenish your sodium? I have asthma too, AND My face gets beet red so people always say "Are you ok?!?!". Anyway, what I've been doing is only exercise either in the am or after work when it's cooled off, and I don't go for more than a half hour when I'm running. Also, when you're done, try really cooling off before you step in the shower. And take cooler showers! (I'm SO ready for fall!)

Hmmm....I'm not too sure. I've never had heat stroke myself.
I know that they've been saying not to do any outdoor exercise on the news and stuff but if you feel alright doing it then I'd say go for it. Just make sure you bring lots of water with you so you don't get dehydrated!!

Hey there, Cutie!
LOVE the new pic.
I know all about heat problems with IBS. The hot weather really plays havoc with seratonin levels in the brain, and my tummy cramps up something awful. I sweat profusely, of course, and feel like I'm gonna faint. I do NOT do well with hot weather -- which is why we moved up here from California. Even here, sometimes the weather will get as hot as 80, and I'm dying!
Ya gotta find a way to cool off, Girlfriend. And don't exercise in the heat! I used to run in the mornings in California -- before the sun came up, never in the heat of the day, NEVER! Drink lotsa water and stay inside.
BTW, you guys are gettin' heat up there? Really? It hasn't stopped raining here. We still haven't had a Spring, and it doesn't look like we're gonna have a Summer either! (I love it.)
Take care -- Bevvy
