When bad days become funny

Ever have those days where it's almost amusing at how bad it went? That was today for me.
Woke up this morning with really bad PMS and cramps, and took it out on my poor boyfriend. Although he didn't help himself any by making fun of my PMS.
Got to work and spent 4 frusterating hours designing a new website for my boss' mediation practice.
Learned that my poor BF was officially getting laid off today (he's one of the last ones in the company left). He was originally told not to worry about it because he was going to be hired by the company who bought my BF's company. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be for another month so now my BF is out of luck.
My old boss (who works with my BF and is like a second mom to me) is so devestated about having to let my BF go and having her own hours cut back to only 20 hrs a week. She'd rather they just let her go completely.
Already had lunch scheduled with my BF because he was craving sushi. But since he was having a rough day, I wouldn't let him pay, even though I'm already broke.
Got back to work to discover that all the electronic equipment was off and a strange aroma was present. Upon further investigation, it seems that there was a power surge and it fried our surge protectors (thus the bad smell). After rushing to the electronics store to buy 6 surge protectors (for a total of $140), I discovered that my computer wouldn't turn on. Seems the power source fried inside my brand new computer. (Kiss those 4 hours I spent working on the website goodbye...)
So after filing a claim with the electric company and playing innocent about why my computer wasn't working with Dell (they're sending someone out to replace the power source next week under warrenty LOL), my boss decided we had had a long week and we'd deal with it all on Monday.
So on my way home, I notice that my gas tank is empty and my gas indicator said "0 miles to Empty". LOL I hadn't even seen it creep down that low so now I'm franticly looking for a gas station. At the same time, I had finished a 16 oz diet coke (was dying for the caffine while buying the surge protectors!) and needed to go to the bathroom BADLY! So I pick the wrong road and go 10 miles before finding a gas station. LUCKILY I didn't run out of gas before then.
Unluckily, there was no bathroom at this gas station and I was in the direct opposite direction of my apartment. It felt like my bladder was going to burst by the time I got to my mom's house nearby 10 minutes later. LOL But it was unbelievably how much better I felt.
And thus ends the ridiculously long bad day I had. Am just happy it's over and thought I'd share an unbelievable story with everyone.
Now I'm off to climb into my pajamas and watch Law & Order: SUV reruns on USA Network.

I am glad you were able to find the humor in a bad day. I can identify with your BF. My company is about to be bought out. We have no idea if we will have jobs or if ur jobs will be located in another city if they decide to retain us. The talks have dragged on and I just want some closure so I know what to do. I wish your BF luck in his job search.

It's awful not knowing what your future is going to look like. My BF's company had been going downhill for a while, which is why I bailed out 2 yrs ago. However, my BF has an incredible sense of loyalty and wanted to stick it out to the end.
It's got to be especially rough for you since you just started at that job in the last couple months. My BF was lucky that he got to stay that long, but only because he had been there 8 years. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with the buying transaction and you're able to stay in your job near your home. Keep us updated!

My dad's company was bought out by another company. He worked with over 60 people and the new company only kept 8 of the old employees. My dad was with his old company for 21 years.
It was the best thing that ever happened to him and my family. The new company pays him twice what the old one did. For the first time, my family is financially stable. I really hope that something works out for you guys.

Aww, thanks Theresa! I am really hoping that this turns out to be a good thing for him, like it was your dad. The upper management were horrible people to work for, and almost everyone who has left or been let go has found much better jobs - including me.
Now if I can just get my old boss out of there...

Whew! You really had a tough one! ((((hugs))))))) glad you could see the funny side of it. I had one of those yesterday (long story won't go into details) although it did have one good point. Hold onto your sense of humour, it always comes in handy
