Hey, ya, I noticed your name was SCgirl (I go to school with several SC boys...they're very *unique* And proud of their schools! 2 went to USC, another went to Clemson )
I am going to NC State for grad school right now, and living in Raleigh. Are you working in Charlotte?

If it was a dog you'd have to work really hard to get dominance back...maybe ask your vet for behavioural tips.

HI! I just got your reply. I do work in Charlotte at the Mint Museum of Art. Yea I know what you mean about "unique" boys from SC..if you are from SC you have to be either a USC or Clemson fan! Personally I am a USC fan!

Haha, so you're another Cock fan, eh? Is that where you went to school? That is the funniest mascot ever...my friend was going to get me a t-shirt with Go Cocks on it, but he never did (I sort of have a large, diverse collection of college t-shirts, after having visited so many of them)....
Yeah, I'm from AZ originally, and at ASU we didnt have near as much school pride as y'all do....that garnet and black pride is fierce. And that palmetto tree, i see it everywhere! LOL.
I imagine being near Charlotte you have more of a "city" environment...I miss Phoenix and all the things a huge city has to offer. Raleigh is very small in comparison.

Yep, I guess you could say that I am one of the biggest "cock" fans that you will ever meet.LOL Yea the palmetto tree is really big here I actually have a sticker on the back of my car and so do all my friends(we are really proud of our state flag).ha I am actually still in school(senior) at Winthrop in Rock Hill SC about 10 mins outside of Charlotte. We should start up a NC support group. I wouldnt even know where to begin with that..but it would be something to do.

Talk to your vet about giving him hormones. These are actually female birth control pills, but they significantly reduce both the aggressiveness in male cats and (usually) the spraying as well. I had a male cat I had to do this with, and although it worked, it also made him a bit spacey and lethargic. It's going to be a trade off of behaviors. There are also extreme surgical ways to correct this, but I doubt you'd want to go that far. Kandee

I didn't see this post until just now, so sorry for the slight delay in my response...
I have a male cat that has a tendancy to do the same thing. In my experience, there's not a lot you can do. Sometimes a male cat will mark for territorial reasons and sometimes to make a point. One thing to consider is if there are other kitties in the neighborhood that make their way to the outside of your home... your kitty might feel threatened and therefor he might feel it necessary to mark things that belong to you to defend his "property". If you can, try to stop him while he's in the act and tell him in a stern voice that you don't want him doing that and why. My kitty responds really well to the tone of my voice, so it works well with him.
I really don't have a lot of suggestions, but I thought I'd at least tell you what's worked for me... marking territory unfortunately, is a very bad bad habit that's incredibly difficult to break. I hope you're able to get it under control... good luck!
