I have one this Saturday and am pretty nervous. It takes an entire hour! It's to figure out why I have bad insomnia.
Oh boy...let's hope my brain is A-ok!

You're gonna be fine Tina! They play music while you lie there...all you have to do is stay still.
Do you get claustrophobic? If you do, be sure to let them know.
It's easy as pie
I hope everything is ok with you *hugs*
Lotsa love

Oh thanks, that makes me feel better. I don't think I'm claustrophobic. I guess I'll find out soon enough!

I've had a couple of them done before and it really isn't bad. You have to lie still for a while so it can get a little uncomfortbale and some of them can be a little loud. If you are anxious, let your dr know and he can prescribe a mild sedative to take the edge off for you!

I saw a movie on TV this past weekend - the main character in the movie had to have an MRI. The technician asked as he was prepping him if he was claustrophobic. His reply cracked me up. He said "Not really, only in small spaces".

I had one recently, and it was no big deal. (I worried myself to death about it beforehand.) The only problem I had was lying completely still on the hard surface, because of the disc problem I have in my back. Other than that, it was no big deal.
It makes loud noises. As long as you know that beforehand, it won't scare you. And everyone had warned me about feeling claustrophic, but that didn't bother me either. I closed my eyes before they wheeled me in there---and then later, when I opened them, I had plenty of room between me and the top of the cylinder, so I didn't feel closed in at all. The light was on, and I felt fresh air.
You'll do fine!

My doctor recommended that I get one today too...but I'm worried about the cost!! Even after insurance, I still have to pay a 20% deductible...which is downright expensive...or is my doctor just overpricing them???

Tina,
I had an MRI a few years ago because of my migraines. It really isn't too bad at all. I was very nervous especially since I was going to a Spanish place to have it done. Once in there I thought this isn't bad and I opened my eyes. I had to close them again immediately. With my eyes closed I wasn't bothered at all.
Don't worry, you will be fine. I'll be thinking about you on Sat.

I've had a ton of MRI's done. I have a cranial cyst (next to my pituitary gland, in my brain), which for a while, needed to be checked every 6 months, and then yearly. Now, since no change has been noted, I only need it checked if I notice any problems.
MRI's are a piece of cake. They'll probably tell you not to wear any makeup or put any styling agents into your hair, so you get to look "un-made", but they try to keep you as comfortable as possible. Just close your eyes and listen to your music... a lot of places allow you to bring your own cd's.
The machine itself can get pretty loud and even sound kind of crazy at times... just try to ignore it.
I'm sure you'll do just fine. Keep us posted on what they tell you!!!
