I am going wedding dress shopping on Saturday, my mother and sisters are coming up and we are checking out bridal shops and bridesmaids dresses for the girls. I have tried 2 dresses on already and would happily walk up the aisle in either one of them as they are really funky and comfy.

Very excited about this!

Then we have our engagement drinks in a pub in town on Saturday night..more fun, lots of friends so really looking forward to that too.

Happy days !

Sinead you must just be having the best time. You will have to post a pic of your wedding dress when you find it!

Enjoy every second of all of this!

How's the bedroom and everything coming? You seemed pretty annoyed last week about it.

Sinead - I remember shopping for my wedding dress back in 96. All the styles then were the gaudy beaded fluffy floofy garbs that looked great on everyone else.... but me. I'm 5 foot 2 and at the time weighed 100 pounds. I looked like a little pixie in a whale costume! I finally got my dress custom made - a very simple crepe sheath with chiffon over top. LOVED IT. It was so comfy. Anyway, I'm rambling. Enjoy your dress shopping. Here's hope you find "the one" this weekend!

I am looking at a fitted top probably strapless, definitely sleeveless and a-line skirt (but NOT a long train or big skirt)

This one is one of my faves at the moment

You can't really see them in the pic but there are petals sown on down the side of the dress to make it look like they fell onto it. I may completely change my mind tomorrow though!

...take a Polaroid or digital camera and make a note with the photo of which dress is which and how much it costs, etc. Believe me, you can forget! And having a reference later is so helpful. And try things on with shoes and veils...it can make a big difference...the shops usually have some you can try.

Wow that is awesome! It's still a wedding dress, but just different enough to be unique. I love it!!!

The only way you pull off that look is if you do your hair just like the model

Good luck!!

Hi Sinead!!
Yay!! That is so fun and awesome - when I read your post I got all excited for you!!
I can't believe you've already found 2 dresses you like - you are so efficient!! I remember when my sister got married, she had a dress made after not finding one that she liked. You'll have to show us pictures whenever you find 'the one' and let us all get jealous of your pretty dress, hee hee.
I am so excited for you, you must just be walking on air! I think times like this are just so exciting and fun - take lotsa pictures so you don't forget it!! And so you can show us, hee hee.
Good luck finding your dress, I am so jealous! I want to go shopping!! I have to go study though, instead!
**big hugs**

Oh! Lookit that! You already did post pictures.. this is why lazy Stephanie has to read the rest of the replies before she starts rambling - hee hee.
Both dresses are gorgeous, I'm sure they'll look absolutely stunning on you. The petals sound really cool, really pretty!
My mom started giving me a talk the other day about how my wedding is going to cost me $20,000 so I had better start saving - at that rate, it'll be about 40 years before I can afford to get married!! Hee hee, my mom is so crazy.
The hall and stuff look beautiful too, your wedding looks like it'll be just a really gorgeous day which you totally deserve!!

Hi Sinead. The dress is gorgeous! I can just picture it on you. Just be prepared with Linz's suggestion though (and I'm not trying to pick you apart Linz I promise) that the shopkeepers often say no. Well they do in Aus. Because they think you want to take a pic then go have it made for a whole lot less of the price somewhere else. I tried it with the dress I eventually bought cause I wanted mum's input but they told me they couldn't let me for that reason. It's always worth a try asking though. Good luck!

I'll try to keep this brief....

The girls (sisters) like the BM dresses I had chosen and we will prob order them online, just need to finalise the colours, they fitted great on both (YAY!)

Bridal shops went like this;
No 1_ I had an appointment. The assistants were absolutely no help and let someone else change in my cubicle while I was out showing my mam and sisters a dress. NOT GOOD

No 2- an appointment donated by a friend as the place has a monthlong waiting list for Saturday appointments. The fitter was excellent. He gave me 45 mins with me being the only person in the shop, gave us a crash course in what suits me and how to show off my figure the best. I found one dress I really liked there.

No 3 stocked the dresses I tried on last week. they don't take Saturday appts so we queued for about ten mins before I got to try a max of three dresses on. The fitter was business like and rushed me a little but very professional and she gave me some great tips. I chose my fave of the 2 dreses I had tried on last week and she put a different skirt with the top. She said I would need to order next Saturday latest and then I got the price- EUR1400. Not outlandish but it sounded A LOT more expensive than I remembered from the shop at home. And the dress I like in No2 shop was only EUR 530 (which was an amazingly low price for a wedding dress but its very plain)

So I had a dilemma. I came home and phoned the shop at home in Wexford and the price she gave me was ...................................EUR 1000. For the SAME dress. The service is excellent there and when I get my practice hair I can go try on the dress that day which will be great.
I wasn't really ready to order yet and asked about lead times, the wexford shop said that she would need me to order by .............EASTER!

I am so happy. this is the dress I am currently in love with and think I will end up walking up the aisle in. I am going to cut off the choker bit and leave the top completely strapless (I think)

HAIR SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!! I am thinking of wearing a floorlength veil and my hair in an upstyle but not piled high on my head....we'll see

Yes i think it is, although the first time I tried it on I Had no tan or contacts and looked a mess so I was slightly unsure. But after trying other stuff on I know its the one.
These are the BM dresses (click for a bigger pic) We are thinking of having the stripes ivory to match my dress but we're not sure yet..

I agree with Natalie - you are getting me so excited for the wedding and it's not even mine!

Well I'm glad you sorted out all that wedding dress mess and found it in the same store near you for cheaper. I definitely love that dress. I will have to think about the hairstyle. Definitely up I think. Are you wearing a veil and all??

And the bridesmaids dresses are fantastic too. Good job Sinead!!!

Thanks girls, I just think its a little bit different.

The BM dresses are going to be that shade of purple but we will possibly do the stripes in ivory to match my dress.(Mam's idea but I am not sure yet, I like the lavender stripes)

I think I will wear a veil the whole way to the floor and my hair up but not too high on my head more back than up if you know what I mean...

And you guys think that you are excited, you have no idea!

Single girls -you have no idea how strange it is to be trying on a wedding dress!

Marrieds- you never told me about the unfun things that have to be done too...
