Diagnosed with it just last April after a barium enema. Since it also showed possible polyps I had colonoscopy last week. Await results of a biopsy.

I did a post somewhere back probably called colon or Bowel Redundancy. As you say it is a longer colon and with mine it may be because of diverticulous which I knew I had. I see specialist next Tuesday as I am seeking more advice on diet.

I sometime feel that because of the extra lenght as well as one or two extra folds that it causes more gas.

I have yet to figure ot a real diet. May I asked how you were dignosed?

I was also diagnosed with a Barium enema. This was after I had several transit study tests which showed there was a delay in the bottom part of my colon. The barium enema confirmed this, I could not believe what I was looking at when I saw the barium enema. Would be interested to know what dietry advice you are given in the future.

Subject Colon Redundancy
Question I have had colonoscopy and awaiting results although I do know that a few small polyps were removed and sent for biopsy which I presume is normal.

I was aware of diverticulous and that according to a barium enema I have colon reduncancy, which I know is a longer colon with extra folds.
After test although I had no bleeding it seemed to take longer than expected to clear gas.

Also despite some sedative I was awake for the test and noted that despite the gallon of laxitive taken night before that colon was not completely clear. Could colon redundancy cause this as well as at times minor constipation due to longer transit time?
Answer Exactly. Redundancy may make you retain some of the prep fluid along some of the loopy columns of colon. Polyps are not a normal finding in the colon. They may be common (30% of colonoscopy exams find some) but are not normal. Hopefully, their nature will be benign, when examined by the pathologist under the microscope.

The redundancy also may slow down the gas expulsion... we have to pump a lot of air into the colon to inflate it.

hope this helps...

You can see rmy report on results of colonoscopy on the Eating For IBS Message Board.

As far as advice on diet for a redundanct colon nothing really major other than increasing fibre. A redundant colon only comes a problem if it's develops twists on and stranbles colon and that is not a normal problem.
