I am a little concerned right now. I ate supper about two hours ago and now I am having a heaviness on my chest that is making breathing a little difficult. Immediately after supper, I noticed that I had an extreme fullness in my upper abdomen. I am looking for some advice or information on what has caused this and what I can do to get rid of it or prevent it in the future. Right now I think I am going to try to sleep it off( I am trying not to panic).

I get this quite frequently. My upper abdomen seems to bloat out more than the lower abdomen. I have noticed this more since I had my gallbladder removed years ago. For me, that bloat causes a heaviness in my chest and difficulty breathing at times. But, have it checked out by a doctor, to be sure it is not heart related.

Thanks for replying! I am feeling much better this morning. I wasn't sure if this was a side effect of ibs. I will mention it to my doctor the next time I go for a visit. Have you noticed what triggers the breathing or is it just an out of the blue occurance?

The shortness of breath seems to coincide with the extent of the bloat. If I am really distended in the upper abdomen, then there is pressure to breath. For me, it is IBS related, but it would be good to mention it to your doctor. I hope this puts you mind at ease somewhat, that someone else shares your symptoms. IBS is a strange bedfellow, affecting everyone differently.

I also have the same thing. And,I've noticed it also coincides with the amount of food I eat. Believe me, I know what it's like to feel it and try not to panic. Now, it's sort of a "norm" if I over eat or eat something that does not "agree" (who knows) with me... I guess "misery loves company" because it reassures me to know there are at least 2 others out there, besides me, experiencing the same thing. Blessings - Dorothy
