It all adds up. You can do 5 minutes here, 5 minutes their and whatever your total is at the end of the day, counts as your total exersize time. I like that part about exersize as well.

for cardio exercise ...ie to get "heart fit" you need to maintain a high heart rate, so doing 30 minutes all together will have your heart rate consistently at its highest level than doing 3 10 minute stints as it will take a while for you to warm up to your highest burn rate. You need a higher intensity of exercise to get cardio fit as opposed to burning fat so that's why you need the longer times to get cardio fit.
