My friend wants to get gyros for lunch and I didn't want to get one unless I knew they weren't a trigger. I have read that Greek food is not so safe, but I am was wondering about chicken gyros?

I would vote that one not safe, unless you prepare it at home yourself and know how it's prepared. I'm always leery of meats prepared in a commercial setting, because they're often cooked with a LOT of oil... plus, on a gyro, isn't there a yogurt-based sauce of some kind? or am I thinking of something else entirely? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you want to risk it, that's totally up to you, but I'm overcautious and I wouldn't.

I never get the yogurt sause, but come to think of it, you are probably right about it being better if I prepared it at home. I could put my own safe foods in the gyro and I would know exactly what was in it and how it was prepared. Thanks, I am still learning, not enjoying, but learning and I am also, learning to enjoy not suffering any more, so in the end, it is worth the sacrafice.

I will definitely not deny that it's a pain in the a$$ at first. Your attitude about it is good, and I know you'll be ok in the long run. Honestly, the best any of us can do is make recommendations based on what we ourselves can tolerate, and that makes it difficult, you know? I, personally, I can't handle *anything* that's not cooked by own 2 hands - I can't even do my mom's cooking anymore! You might be different, though, and you'll never know till you try. If you're feeling up to taking the risk today, try it... just don't plan on doing anything afterwards, just in case! Good luck!

Eat before you go. Even a bowl of rice will help. You can say to your friends that you got hungry and ate before you came. Then, you can nibble away at something. If you're really in doubt, it's not worth the risk. Enjoy the company of your friends, and say that you have food sensitivies that make it impossible for you to tolerate the food on the menu.

Also, look for anything with dreessings on the side: ie. greek salad. Ask for a large white bun for safety.
