Have another question So many of you say you get so much help from the different teas; ie, peppermint, fennel, etc. Well, I hate tea; never have liked it. So for the most part I just drink water. I'm doing the peppermint capsules, but is there any other way to get fennel or some of the other teas that would help with nausea or the spasms? Janene

which is strange for an anglophyle. But I love the mix tummy teas from the store. They don't taste like tea in general. I started with a lot of sugar in it and now I need none. I don't like hot beverages generally but the fennel mix teas just are so soothing to me I now love them. I am sure it is partly in my head. But I think they are much more palatable especially if you don't like the taste of fennel. I use Celestial Seasonings tummy mint or Eater's Digest by some health food company I can't remember.

At the regular grocery store. I am using Tummy Mint now as they stopped carrying the Eater's Digest but I have ordered it. Try ordering from the grocery store if they don't have it. Both kinds have peppermint, fennel, ginger and chamomile. They are not as potent as Heather's teas but I like them because it is a mix and tastes good.

I was there last week too, and could not find it. I stood there for 10 minutes looking for it. Maybe they were just out of stock. Hope so!

I was just at cub and bought some more tummy mint celestial seasonings (top shelf- natural section) but they still don't have Eater's Digest. I ordered it again and this time I think it will come in if it is being made still. I have a cold and bought the Traditional Medicinals Echinacea and Throat care and it feels great! How is your whooping cough doing?

I think I posted a similar question back in December or January. I have really been struggling to stop drinking coffee and I thought I didn't like tea either. For me, for the most part, it has been an acquired taste. I have found that the benefits from the teas are excellent, which, in turn, helps me like the tea more (psychologically at least).
When I first read Heather's book back in 2001, I tried peppermint tea and green tea (both from the supermarket). I still don't like green tea, but I do like peppermint tea. I would highly recommend Heather's peppermint tummy tea because nothing I have bought in any store comes anywhere close to tasting as good I tried fennel this past fall and I have actually always liked that. I also like anise tea very much - I like to drink that in the evening with a little bit of honey.
Sorry for such a long-winded response! Hope it helps a little

Hi Tamara!
Still coughing, but not nearly as bad as before. Thanks for asking. The cough medicine seemed to be the miracle drug for it.
Speaking of Tummy Mint...I just got back from Cub and was able to find it this time. They just must have been out the last time I checked. Yay!! I'm so happy I found it.
Take care of the cold!!!

I have a question, why are you Becky when your name is Rachel? Was there a reason? I came up with my alias when I joined the ibsgroup and needed a handle. Little Minnie was a cat I had when I was a teenager but I couldn't come up with anything better just then. On other sites I use my real name. Anyway I was just wondering.

Well, when I was working at this one job, there was a coworker of mine that could never remember my name and always called me Rebecca instead. Eventually it stuck and to shorten it, they started calling me Becky. I was leary of using my real name when I started posting here, because I had never been a part of anything on line before. Now I'm pretty comfortable using it, so call me Rachel any time you want!

Have you ever tried the Traditional Medicinals Smooth Move? I wonder if that works. Their other teas seem really effective. I really like the throat one.

Little Minnie...I swear by the stuff and keep it on hand always. It has a stimulant in it which is not a good thing for those with IBS. If I am really constipated, it works wonders...I over did it one time and cramped for days. If you drink it...take it very slow and no more than one cup a day. It will help you "move smooth" for sure!

Just wanted to thank you all for your suggestions; I went out yesterday and bought tea and more tea. Let's see, I got Celestial Seasons-Chamomile (that chamomile is going to take getting used to-yuk-even added honey) as well as Tummy Mint (actually liked that!) Then bought Good Earth Medicinals Fennel W/ Peppermint (that's my favorite so far) and lastly Yogi Tea-Lemon Ginger (that's so-so).Also bought Celestial Seasonings Pepperment, but haven't tried that yet. I have Heather's Peppermint Caps and acutually burb up the stuff if I have very much, so little leary of too much peppermint, but will give it a try. You're right, Miss Pepper, you have to develope a taste for the stuff, with the idea that it will help you. And I actually think it is! Have a great day! Janene

I think the plain mint is kind of gross. But you could always put 2 different bags in a big cup if you don't like it.

I'm not a big fan of plain chamomile, but I do like Celestial's Honey Vanilla Chamomile. It's way tastier!

I'm pretty sure it's senna, which is the same type of laxative as aloe, and it can cause all sorts of serious harm to your gut. Check the past newsletter article on the dangers of aloe - they apply to senna too - it's here in the news section of the site aloe

This is the part that worries me "Senna's laxative action is largely attributed to its anthranoid content."
It's the anthranoids that cause all the problems - the whole newsletter article is about that. I actually just learned this really recently about the aloe - I'd always heard horrible things about senna, but didn't realize that aloe was in the same drug class.
