I have just been diagnosed with IBS after suffering for 8-10 years. I'm reading through Heather's books. I have a question about juice. Most juices are a no-no, is it because of the fructose? I have found some juices that are 100% juice (Bolthouse farms brand). Is it the fruit that has fructose or is it something they put in most juices (as I've seen on other juice labels). I'm giving up my Mountain Dew, but just don't no if I can go without much else but water.
Thank you.

This is what Heather says about juices in her book.
"Fructose, a fruit sugar, can cause gas, bloating and diarrhea. Fruit juices, particularly apple and grape are often sky high in fructose and even more problematic than whole fresh fruit. So treat juices as you would insoluble fibre and drink them carefully, with soluble fibre foods".
I know it's hard to think of cutting them out but it really is better not having those awful pains. As well as water you can drink lots of herbal teas (hot or cold), there are also some nice drinks recipes in Eating for IBS ( I love the peachy lemonade).
Plain cranberry juice is the safest juice and I would still drink it with a meal high in SF.
Hope this helped.

I find Mango and Apple juice the easiest on my tum! Plus, it's yummy. Btw, fructose is totally natural and it's usually only stuff that contains a LOT of fructose that bothers us (hence why high-fructose corn syrup is bad).

So fruit contains fructose? So even if it's 100% fruit juice and the label does not say fructose, it will still contain some?

Yes. The naturally-occurring sweetness in fruits comes from a type of sugar called fructose.
