I have been taking the peppermint pill for three weeks now and it has done absolutly nothing for me. Everyone tells me that this works, but not for me. I was wondering if it was alright for someone to take Donatell only when needed, when it is that time of the month or when it is really bad ( I get D and cramping). I tired everything last night, Immodium, heating pack, cameal tea, peppermint pills, everything, nothing helped, it was still really bad and I am at work to make matters worse. I'm just trying to get through the day. Although, the tea helped somewhat, but didn't get rid of the cramps completly. Anyone have any advice?

hi,

sorry to hear you're feeling so awful ... i used donnatal on occasion when things got bad, and it really helped me. my symptomps did not include D, but horrible cramps and nausea... it's a narcotic, so you have to watch it but i highly recommend it for when the going gets rough.

good luck! kk

It was unbearable yesterday, I wish I had one. Thank you so much for your advice. I think I will ask the dr. about this pill. Thanks!

all anti-spasmodics work that way. Take one when you need one, or when you anticipate you'll need one (like when your period is due).

You might try a peppermint cap on an empty stomach about one hour before each meal. Sometimes you need more than one a day. It will help, but if you're dealing with both wicked menstrual cramps and IBS spasms/diarrhea at the same time, that can be too much for peppermint to completely resolve.

I've had Donnatol for years, and don't use it too much anymore. I think it's really interesting that it has such a serious narcotic warning on it, as my bottle never had any warning like this, and my docs just treated it like any other anti-spasmodic prescription. I've used it pretty freely for up to a week at a time and never really noticed any effects (good or bad) that different from other anti-spasmodics. It helped, but it wasn't a wonder drug.
