When will the acacia make the gas go away? Do bananas cause gas?

Oy. I am a bloated, gassy girl. It hurts, too. I've been following the diet for almost 2 months now and it was working very well for a while once my body got used to it. Then I started working again 3 weeks ago and, coincidentally or not, I've been suffering from C and crazy gas pains again. I feel like I'm doing everything right.. 3 liters water/tea, soluble fiber-based meals, acacia powder, peppermint capsules 3x day. This morning I had 1/2 mushed banana with my oatmeal w/soy. Was it the banana that caused the gas?

I've been taking 1 tsp. of acacia when I wake up and 1 tsp. before dinner. I'm starting to add 1/4 tsp to the morning & evening servings and 1/2 tsp before lunch additionally. Am I increasing gradually enough? When will the acacia powder and peppermint capsules start to illeviate my gas?

If anyone has any advice, please let me know. Thanks!!!

Hi Monika,

You might cut back a little on the Acacia -- for awhile at least. I had a severe case of gas with the Acacia, when I was increasing my dosage as you are. Actually, I had bloating as well, and urgent D -- it was not a pretty picture. As soon as I cut WAY back on the dosage, my symptoms all disappeared -- for good.

I doubt it's the bananas. Cut back on your dosage for just a day or two and see if it doesn't make a difference. You might have hit upon your body's tolerance level -- as I did.

Bev

Monika,

You are talking about tiny amounts of acacia. Remember that one tsp of acacia only contains 1.5 grams of soluble fiber. Everyone is different, but I've been able to increase my SFS dosage by 1 gram every four or five days.

My first guess would be that the stress is probably having its way with you. Have you been having fennel tea? Are you walking around a bit after meals?

These are just my two cents. I hope you feel better!

I've found that I need both diet and exercise to keep the gas down. Yoga is very good for this, although walking, particularly after meals, ain't bad either.

Hi! I admit I haven't been going to the gym regularly since starting this new job 4 weeks ago. My C and G-pains began during this time, so it could very well be lack of exercise. I am going to go tonight after work if it's the last thing I do!

I also cut out the acacia for now and the oatmeal, but I'm still sitting here with a big, bloated, painful stomach. This morning I had Farina (thought this might be better than Cream of Wheat) and applesauce with soy milk. And I had a banana before that. I guess it wasn't the acacia causing the gas for the past few days, because I didn't take it this morning (or the oatmeal) and I still have this problem!!

You have responded to me before and I appreciate it!! Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I'm feeling frustrated because I was doing so well a month ago.

Thanks so much,
Monika

Right, okay. I'm realizing it may not be the Acacia. I'll try to bring this back in and gradually increase. AND I haven't been walking/exercising regularly. I will get back to that. I didn't think I was stressed-out, but a new job, an upcoming move, packing, trying to find someone to take over my lease, etc., seems to have taken its toll!!

Thanks for responding.
