Hi,
Sometimes it feels wierd going into so much detail about your bowel motions with complete strangers (although lifesavers in so many ways).
I was wondering if anyone shares my same sypmtoms below.
My C has eased tremendously since starting Heather's diet although bloating is still my main enemy as I have commented in the past.
I'm a go each morning kind of person and this may sound wierd butI find my bloating stems from how I go in the morning. For instance, a lot of the time even though I have no trouble "going" it seems like it is unfinished which leaves my stomach still feeling bloated for the rest of the day.
However, if i "go" properly and my stomach is left feeling empty then I feel good that day as long as I stick to the diet and I don't suffer the bloating.
Does anyone else suffer this or have found a way to deal with this unfinished, not empty properly problem? I feel like if I could solve this then I would have everything under control.

Hi Kerrie,
I suffer from the same problem as well. I'm predominately IBS C but I do get D occasionally, it's interesting that the days I have D I actually feel loads better...don't have that gas problem much at all. (apart from the stomach cramps etc)
I've found that excercise helps heaps with this. When I go bushwalking, usually for a week or so, I have no problems going fully in the mornings and generally feel fantastic. Come to think of it, it could also be because I'm relaxed and happy and in a space I feel completely comfortable.
At the moment I'm working 6 days a week in a largely sedentary job and feeling very stressed and the C and bloating just seem to be getting worse (acutally having today off sick...feel 6 months pregnant and miserable).
I think that exercise and being relaxed help but I just don't seem to be able to get myself out of my current hole (2 months a go felt great!). I think not being comfortable going at work can stress me because I try and make myself have a bm before I leave...this invariable just stresses me and heightens the problem.
So, I don't know how helpful that is...I know what makes me feel better, I just can't seem to be able to do it.
Again, can anyone else help us with this??

Emma, Thanks so much for your reply. It's nice to hear from others in the same boat. I know what you mean about stressing in the mornings about having a BM. I'm exactly the same. As soon as I wake it's the first thing on my mind. I worry thinking will it happen?, will it be good or leave me still bloated? etc etc.
Like you, I was doing really well but have been in a hole the last few months and I agree I think relaxation is sometimes the key. I don't know what more I can do here as I listen to a relaxation tape daily, go to Yoga and walk daily. I can also relate to the feeling six months pregnant bit! That's exactly how it feels! Being pregnant is definately a lot nicer though.
I gradually stopped taking anti-depressants a while ago seeing I was going well and I can't help wondering if this could have something to do with my step backwards as well.

Hello KinOz, I can see that you and I have had the same time with the problem, My doctor prescribe antidrpesives as well, I took them for a very short time. Last year I had a complet Histerectomy, ever sice that curgery I star having problems with my digestive system. I gad well after 6 mos. but this year everithing started againg six mos. ago finally my Doctor diagnosed my with IBS. He suggested me to take the antidrepresives againg, but I decided no to do it I dont think that they help a lot beisde that I didn't feel like my self so, hang on there without them for a little longer hopefully the diet will help you too. Hello: I too suffer from IBS, of course, diagnosed as nervous stomach for many years. Stress has always brought on bouts of IBS, had a bad day today, work was a real pain, came home with my pants buttons opened. Actually doing much better now, since following Heather's suggestions, and I also take Natren's Trenev Trio a wonderful dairy free acidophilus product. Drinking hot mint tea at the moment, feeling much better. Take a warm herbal bath, relax, meditate, you will sleep better.

I started taking peppermint oil vitamins instead of drinking tea. The brand I bought also has Fennel oil and Ginger oil. The day after I started taking it I actually had the best day in ages. Its a lot easier than drinking cups and cups of peppermint tea. I also started taking a digestive enzyme at the same time, so I don't know yet which one is making me feel better, I'm just happy to be feeling well. Hope this helps.

I was going to post the same Question--you beat me to it! I have C IBS (well, I just had my colonoscopy last Thur. and I'll get the official biopsy results tomorrow--but the doc is 99% sure I have IBS). He said something about putting me on Zelnorm. Since being cleaned out for the colonoscopy I had a normal BM yesterday for the first time in months (literally)! I felt like celebrating! Today has been a rough day though--I slacked off on the diet MAJORLY and I'm paying for it--but I'm hoping tog et back on track and maybe I'll have regular normal BMs every morning like I did yesterday!
I am also QUITE bloated! (And gassy). So I know how you feel. I do yoga daily--I just started a few weeks ago--and I try to do aerobic dance whenever possible. I'm a kindergarten teacher, so I do get some movement at work, which is nice. I don't think I drink enough water though. Do you get a lot o fluids? If not, maybe if we drank more we'd be less bloated? I dunno--I seem to get more bloated the more I drink--do you get the same results? I wonder though if I consistently drank a lot for a few weeks--maybe my body would get used to it and stabalize and I wouldn't be bloated anymore? Any ideas?
I think everyone has some great suggestions so far! In regard to fennel tea, I've heard Heather mention something about it helping control bloating and gas. Have you given fennel a try? I think I'm going to add more fluids in whenever for possible and try fennel tea for a week or two and see what that does...I'll keep you posted. And, if you have any ideas, PLEASE let us know!

I think that if you don't drink enough water, you're body hangs onto it and you bloat - the more you drink, you're body will get rid of the excess. I did one of those detox diets once, cut out salt, sugar, meat, caffeine - you name it - and drank loads of water. I ended up permanantly in the bathroom, but the water loss was astonishing and I could really see a difference in my figure. In fact, it was just a stricter version of the ibs diet really. Sarah

I have tried the dig. enzymes with no luck . does someone know how often should you take the acidopilous? every day cause it seems to give me D if I take it every day.
