Ugh, doctors make me sick sometimes I have two wonderful family doctors who are trying so hard to take care of me, but these darn specialists...they are so frustrating. My doctor was trying to arrange a second opinion since the GI I saw only did a colonoscopy (no other tests) and when it came back negative said nothing was wrong with me and let it go at that.

Since the pain and problems have gotten so severe lately, he figured he'd be able to get another doctor to see me. He even mentioned I've lost almost 50lbs now...and he couldnt' find anyone. They are all so overstuffed with patients that they said if a GI guy already saw me and didn't want to do anything, they won't do it!

God, now I just don't know what to do...something is definately wrong, and I think it's something other than IBS or I doubt I would be in this much pain. I'm going back to that crappy GI...the only thing I can think is to bring my Dad with me...he can be pretty darn forceful sometimes but often too much, and he makes people angry, but maybe that's what I need. I can't just rollover and do nothing...and apparently until I lose enough weight that I'm in the "danger" zone they don't care about that either.

Sorry, I'm just venting. I figure I'll give this crappy GI one more chance, and if he still won't investigate the problem, I may have to take out a loan and shell out the money to go to a private clinic we have near here...$875 for the initial assessment, but they're apparently really good.

Sheesh...just absolutely ridiculous...

It IS ridiculous... and I feel for you. I think your idea to have your father step in is a good one, actually. As much as I hate to admit it, there have been times in the past where I've had to call on my parents' experience and forcefulness to get things done. It happens. It might be worth a shot, because I agree - from what you've said on here, something IS wrong.

I guess healthcare really is ridiculous all over.

*Hugs* to you.

Aww, sweetie. You deserve a medal - you're dealing with so much suffering and a bunch of yoyo specialists. I was wondering if your family Doc may be able to help again. Can he/she order tests? Did he/she do checks for ovarian/uterine cancers? Other gyn problems? Did they take x-rays of your abdomen? Ultrasound to check for ulcers? AAAAAAANYTHING????
I'm not a Doc and I'm taking a stab in the dark here - but you said you think it's something other than just IBS. I would trust your own instincts and go back to your family Dr. Maybe he/she will have suggestions. What about celiac tests????
LEt us know what happens.

Hey Hansolo,

Thanks for the info and support My family doctor is trying some things...he just ordered some stool samples (was shocked the GI hadn't done that he said) and has put through a rush request for a ob-gyn referral to check to see if my endometriosis is maybe spread to the bowel or something like that.

Other than that, he's hesistant to order any more tests because the next one they feel is important is a small bowel follow-through and since I had a bad reaction to the barium he wants a GI consult before doing it.

I'm no doctor either, I would just think that since I've been following the diet religiously, and even tried taking some strong pain meds, if it was just IBS, the pain shouldn't be waking me up at night...but then again, who knows right? That's what doctors are supposed to be for

Thanks again,
Kelly

unless that's a really rare occurrence (it is possible with IBS, but it's not common). Frequent night pain that wakes you from a sound sleep is a big red flag for something other than IBS.

Please keep us posted - I'm so sorry your docs are struggling, and you are too.

Thanks for your input Heather.
That's one of the main reasons I'm pushing for more tests, despite taking Librax right before bed, I'm still being woken from a sound sleep. I had originally told my GI doc this, but he said it was likely just "anxiety" I'm just not willing to accept that.

Thanks for all your advice, I really appreciate it,
Kelly

I KNOW how frustrating these drs can be, I have had IBS since I was 15, I'll be 34 in a couple of weeks and I've seen a bunch of different so called specialist!

I have had the colonoscopy, an abdominal ultrasound, upperGI, small bowel work up with follow through (the one where you drink all that barium, yum ) every x-ray, scan and scope that there is! They have never found anything "wrong" with me!!! I too, suffer a lot of pain. I have been on the diet for 1.5 years and things have improved some but I still suffer from gas, bloating and pain.

I also have anxiety and depression issues. I do find taking Wellbutrin (an anti-depressant) helps my tummy also. I have tried every anti-spasm drug, like the Librax, Bentyl, Levsin and none of them help me. Taking Heathers peppermint caps provide some relief sometimes.

I also have problems sleeping and will use Xanax, its an anti-anxiety and makes me sleepy. Try sleeping with a heating pad on your tummy, that helps me the most. I know it says on the directions not to do that but I put my heating pad in a pillow case and leave it on all night and its sometimes the only relief I can get on a real bad day!

I hope the drs do some tests on you to rule out other problems. Taking your dad with you does sound like a good idea! Hope you feel better soon!
