Does any one ever find that they have to take trigger foods?

Until I have a colonoscopy in September the specialist advised that even though I have diverticulous my problems which I have mainly periods of some of minor constipation it may just be IBS or complications after gall bladder surgery also common.
However I am wondering if sometimes people do take trigger foods at time to give youself a kick start. I take Metamucil and it does help but not completely at times.
I would prefer to stay away from plain laxitives if I can.

When you speak of trigger foods...do you mean those that comprise insoluble fiber? Such as green veggies, etc...all those that help to make you go? If so, I definitely eat them as that is the only way I can go to the bathroom. I eat plenty of soluble fiber beforehand (sweet potato, carrots, etc, while trying to stay away from more constipating soluble fiber, such as white bread, pasta, etc) and follow it with plenty of green veggies and wheat/whole wheat bread, pita, etc...I also make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day (at least 2 liters) and eat fruit in the evening (peeled apple, dried fruit...). If I do all of this, I am almost sure I will go to the bathroom. If I forget to do one of those things, I will most likely not go. Good luck!

I don't go full-bore into drinking coffee or eating greasy fried foods if I find myself constipated, mostly because I'm an A and I'm afraid of overdoing it and giving myself D for days. I do have a short list of things that are almost sure to make me "go", and I have, in the past, eaten them in quantity to move things along. (Raw apples, even peeled, and grapes are high on the list.) If that doesn't work, I use glycerin suppositories.
I'm definitely done with laxatives... even "gentle" ones are way too harsh.

Sometimes I'll drink a soda for the carbonation if I'm really C. The carbonation can be that extra little push that will help, but it doesn't work everytime.

Thanks for your replies. Going to try trigger route tomorrow if problem still persists. But of course have to ease into it otherwise it jumps too far the other way.

Do trigger foods really help you if you are C? I thought "trigger foods" were foods, etc. that caused the C attack in the first place? Am I missing something?

Well my problem is not completely diagnosed as IBS or diverticulous. In the interim I sometimes will get constipated more so that D. When this happens I either wait out the storm or do something about it. But I avoid any strong type of a laxitive as I said it will go to far.
I was just curious how other handle similar problem.

To be honest I was thinking of something a little more drastic, like a hamburger, salad with more salad dressing, just to give a kick start. However seem okay today mainly by drinking more liquids I guess yesterday.
However I use doc on net on http://allExperts.com at times. It is a free advice network which I have used often as Bev and possibly others have used...He advised that I switch to Metamucil tablets or something similar but to take three at a time, twice a day if necessary.
Seems like a lot to me. I would have visions of having to plot washrooms in advance of doing anything.

Yes i agree, rather than eating foods which are known episode causing irritants, i find that foods that do not upset me, but are commonly known to increase metabolic rate such as mild chili and curry dishes can be helpful in keeping things moving, in a civilized fashion.....might be worth a try.

Hey Ken, before I started this diet, I would sometimes get constipated as a side effect of my 'D'. Or maybe I am an 'A", but i still think of myslef as a Der. I would purposely eat things I knew made me sick, like choclate and junk foods and such (triggers). Now that I am on the diet, when I have this problem I stay away from those things, and try to remedy the problem within the guidelines of the diet if it comes up. If Iadd in more veggies, and maybe have some blueberries, as bevrs suggested, things move along better. Also tea (fennel and chamomile) have been a big help. i also had trouble when I was on too low a dosage of fiber, maybe you need to increase?
