Well, I went to my new doctor today (I finally got into an actual clinic rather than just going to University Student Health) and I was suprisinginly impressed
I saw a resident first who took an extremely thorough history and spent almost an hour going over my past history, family history, symptoms and all previous test results. Then she went and discussed it with more senior doctor who came in and promised that he would get to the bottom of this as soon as possible.
He said given my symptoms and severe weight loss he didn't think it was right for the GI doc to just say it was IBS just because the colonoscopy was negative, so they are going to start from scratch and try and get things sorted out.
He was really nice, said that the goal for right now would be to try and make me more comfortable, and then start investigating and find out what's cooking so they can establish an appropriate treatment plan and stop the weight loss.
Just to start today he ordered a bunch of stool tests (yuck!) and a bunch of blood work, and I'm going back in a week.
So fingers crossed that this will work out for me!
Just wanted to share my news, Kelly

Well, it's about TIME, ain't it!? This is MARVELOUS news. I like this doc. Can I get an appointment?
Those stool tests suck. I still have nightmares about playing with my poop.
Gee, a doctor who said the GI was wrong. I'm blown.
Keep us posted, Kelly; I wanna know what the results show. I'm very interested in knowing why you're losing all that weight.
Thanks!
Bev

Hi Kelly, I just wanted to let you know how happy I am for you that you found a new doctor, and he seems like a keeper! I know I felt SO MUCH better after just leaving the office of my new doctor, just 'cause he too promised me we would figure out what on earth was going on inside my stupid stomach! I know the tests are a pain, but at least you'll find something out from them, right? I think I'd rather have to do the poop tests, and find out if something (or if nothing) is wrong, then always wonder. When I was younger, I spent AGES being sick and losing weight (so much they kept threatening to put me in the children's hospital!) and they finally found out I had a bunch of weird parasites in my belly! One of my doctors said that mighta been the 'trauma' that left me with IBS 'cause they had to give me a lotttttt of meds to kill 'em off after they'd been living there so happily for sooooo long. Good luck darling, I hope you get good results and a happier tummy! --Steph
