I personally love toast. I have been a chef for 20 years and have studied french and Swiss and NW cusine.

I also want to open a house of toast. LOL

I say toasted, the charcol may help calm the gut and relieve gas somewhat.

Toast seems to be fine for me - but don't burn it - anything charred can be harder on the tummy.

But I have toast and jam all the time - yummm!

Everyone in this thread seems to be saying yes! I'm with them: after all, toast is the T in the BRAT diet.... It's also one of my favorite foods.

is true the charcoal from burnt toast can absorb gas in the system.

...while you can make a lot of generalizations about IBS, no 2 people are exactly alike. It's a lot of trial and error, unfortunately, to see what works for you.

But the majority of people seem to be saying yes.

Hey, another PUMPERNICKEL LOVER - can you shed some light on why you and I believe pumpernickel is a good ibs-d food? I think its because it is made with barley flour and is very low in sugar, higher in protein and does NOT contain whole grain whole wheat - yes? I know it is very LOW gi...that is good too -

ADDITION TO THIS POST - I just read that pumpernickel's fiber content is HALF soluable and HALF insoluable, JUST like white bread...no bread is ALL soluable fiber - this is a very good ratio.

Okay - Toast. Toast IT IS!!! Been doing toast for 2 days now and no "firmer" results...but hey, it really slows me down when eating a sandwich and that helps me learn to calm down while digesting too. I eat less and that helps. Big meals are no good for me.

Oh, one person did say that the toast might not be okay...read the posts again. Only one though. From what I know charcoal does absorb GAS! Does burnt toast qualify as well, charcoal? What a weird question!!!

Toast is a staple for me. It's what I eat when I'm at my worst. I don't know what I'd do without it!

Did the sourdough toast this am. Yummy. And a lower gi than most breads. Barley any fiber in it...like 1 gm per slice...not much soluable fiber?

is what you'd get from two Fibercon or Equalactin or Citrucel tablets. It doesn't necessarily take much soluble fiber in a food, in terms of grams, to really help keep your IBS stable. You can do a search for past posts on this, about the volume of soluble fiber in foods versus grams. Search with no time limits as the posts go back a ways.
