Sick of feeling bad

Okay I guess this is just whinning,but I am so tired of feeling bad. I don't know if it's due to my traveling or my eating or somethind else but I hate this 4 day loss of time.Between the getting sick and so bloated I know I AM the goodyr. blimp overfilled past the limit.Then when that finally goes away there's the follow up of achey stomach muscles that feel they've been beaten up(oh they hurt so badly),and the tiredness and lack of any energy. Added to this I'm more miserable bec. I can't lose weight(I'm IBS C).I eat bread or potatoes to cushion all the trigger or insoluable foods and I am hungry a lot and well,I'm just feling down today. I try to go for walks,when I don't hurt too much to leave home. I know I'm lucky I don't have something worse,but this feels like a major disease. Sorry,just needed to let this out.

I'm having a really bad day, and I know how you feel. I was always a D, but since starting the diet and giving up caffeine, I've tended more towards C. I haven't had a BM in almost a week, and although I'm not bloated and I don't have gas, I'm in so much pain that I can barely even walk. I tried everything everyone's recommended me for the past couple days (insolubles, etc), but I gave up trying to eat today, because everything gives me heartburn. I'm miserable, and I feel completely useless. Wah wah. Enough about me.
I'm sorry you're feeling bad, but you know we understand. It always feels like a major disease to me. Vent all you like! And I hope you get feeling better quickly, too.

Crap. I'm sorry to hear you're feeling the same way too. *hugs*
It's really not unusual for me to go 3 days and still feel fine. Actually, as of yesterday, I STILL felt fine. Today it hit me like bricks. I rarely ever go this long, and it's freaking me out. I've tried everything. I don't know what to do.
I'm tempted to go crack into the Coke in the fridge, or make myself a pot of coffee, but I know that's bad. LOL

I'd like to join in on this conversation. I am IBS-D, but I haven't been taking any fiber for fear of an attack. So what happens? I go 4 or 5 days w/out a BM, and in the mean time I am taking Benefiber tablets and some Fibersmart capsules from the health food store along with eating fruit, Frosted Mini Wheats (what was I thinking), and coffee to try to go. What happens? The night before my anniversary (June 24) I get so cramped I can't stand it. All day on my anniversary I basically spent running back and forth to the bathroom until (gross) it just became water. I went like this for almost three days!! Then I started my period! So much frustration with this IBS. Just when I think I'm getting it under control, I get a setback and very depressed about which, I know, makes it even worse. Sorry to go on and on. It's been a bad week, and I'm supposed to be on vacation and relaxed. Hope everyone else is feeling better!

I'm a D also. When I first came on Board, I followed the program to the letter, with this one exception: I had a very long addiction to coffee and refused to give it up. I was having terrible cramps DAILY, all the while drinking my beloved cuppa. When Heather found out, she wrote me a post that I'll never forget; I can't find it in here, or I'd copy it for you, but it was headed, "Oh Wow, This is a HUGE Problem!" With that one post she got me to quit cold turkey. And you know what? The very next morning, I was completely cramp-free for the first time in AGES. She said I'd be surprised at how fast I'd get better, and she was totally right.
You need to give up that coffee. You'll be amazed too at how fast you feel better.
Also, check the ingredients on those Benefiber tablets. They are not IBS-safe. The powder is IBS-safe, but beware. It's guar gum; can you tolerate it? I was on the powder, but having morning cramps -- just like in my old coffee days -- and as soon as I stopped the Benefiber, the cramps went away.
How soon is your vacation? Do you have time to try a different SFS? Have you tried Heather's Acacia? Like the Benefiber powder, it doesn't have a taste and doesn't thicken (like Citrucel powder does). Really, you have to try them to see which your body will tolerate. I tried them all! (To be honest, I had a problem with all of them, including the Acacia, although I was taking too much of the Acacia, so it's not a fair test.)
I know nothing about FiberSmart, unfortunately, so I can't comment. However, you need to find one that works for you without upsetting your system.
An ESSENTIAL emergency kit to keep in your purse includes: your meds (antispasmodic especially, but also Lomotil or Imodium) AND a supply of Equalactin. Many a time I've had to pull out a tablet and chew it up, and every time it's calmed my tummy down almost immediately.
I guess I'm lucky, because wheat does not bother me at all. It's the only kind of bread I eat, and the only kind of flour I use. I make a lot of Shanna's incredible Banana Bread, and use whole wheat flour in it; it's what we have every morning for breakfast, toasted, with Soy Butter on it.
I'm sorry to disappoint you about that coffee, but you really will be surprised at how quickly those cramps will go away when you give it up. There IS an alternative, and it's my beloved SoyFee: Soyfee Web Site I drink a half pot every morning. It's FABULOUS and tastes EXACTLY like real coffee. You can drink as much as you want because it's very healthy and AIDS IN DIGESTION. Before that vacation, be sure to stock up! (Warning: shipping of the Soyfee takes forever from NYC. I have to wait over 2 weeks to get it -- so order EARLY!)

WHICH trigger foods are you eating, how often, and how much? You need the insolubles, so you definitely want to "cushion" them as you have, but what if you simply cut out all those trigger foods?
Truly, cutting out all triggers is the answer. I'm always so careful to avoid them because I'm so darn sensitive, but the other day I had a turkey burger and it didn't sit too well in my tummy. Turns out the turkey was dark meat.
Girlfriend, I can't lose weight either. But that's a whole other issue. I SO would not worry about that right now if I were you. You need to get yourself stable, and we're here to help you with it if we can.
Are you on a SFS? What kind? How much? How long? I had EXTREME bloating and constant gas -- 24/7 -- and it all stemmed from my SFS. Check your dosage and see if you're taking too much (or too little) and check the ingredients too, because some of them are not IBS-safe.
We'll get you fixed up! We'll work on this together.

I was there last week, missed 3 days of work ,felt awful, now I am almost back to normal again. It will get better, stay on the diet, and it will stablize your system again. When my IBS acts up, I find it also affects me emotionally!! Down in the dumps I go. Drink your tea and be good to yourself.

Thanks for taking so much time to reply to me. I know a lot of it is my fault. I wish I could find something to calm my nerves about it. I worry when events are coming up that I'm going to be sick and then what happens? I get sick from worrying. The Librax I'm taking has a slight sedative in it, but so slight that it is not relieving the nerves like I thought it would. Yea, I know, giving up the coffee thing is soooooo hard. My husband drinks it every morning and it is so hard to resist. I always think, "Oh, just a little can't hurt." Thanks for all of the advice. I think I basically "overdosed" on fiber in order to have a BM after 4 or 5 days and really payed the price for three days after. Is that normal when I'm not taking any type of sol. fiber on a regular basis?

Hi Bev, Sorry this reply has been so delayed.I wrote one yesterday and then my son came in and when I got back to my laptop my comp. had frozn up and I lost it. Anyway,I'lll tyr again.Foirst I want to say thank you ever so much for your caring thoughtful response. It feels so good to have support and help. I needed to reach out and I find it so hard to do. In regard to your questions,I have cut out chocolate,caffeine,milk prod.,fried and high fat foods.Occasionally I will have a decaf chilled coffee drink at the coffee shop(it prob. has milk in it),other than that the only triggers I know of are rum,which I have on special occasions.We are retired and I feellike we have done too much vacationing lately.that can cause 2 problems,being on the raod and being IBS C is not fun.I need the fredom to go to the bathroom whenever the urge hits me,not riding miles from a place to go.The other aspect is that this situation tends to make me slip into that,oh I'm on vacation,I'll just have another drink or a few cookies,or some nonfat yogurt.Most of the time I am very careful not to upset my stomach,but I am not sure what is the culprit. I am in the process of trying to stop the travel and try to reign in my little cheating self.This last time I have been sick since last Sat. and today it's not over.That should teach me! Another factor is that I should stay home until after 1pm to finish going to the bathroom.My muscles just have a hard time relaxing in that area. Sme days I have to go out in the morning and that often starts an attack. Whew! SOrry this is so long.I have been thinking I should add meditation and yoga to my plan si yesterday I signd up for a yoga class and a gentle exercise class.Today I listened to a med. tape and napped.I am going to try to do that on a more reg. basis. Well I have no excuse. I ordered Soyfee but it didn't come before I left town.Then I went to the HFS at the beach and they had it.I was SHOCKED and thriled. It's even good if I fix it w/soymilk like what I would get at the coffee house.Guess I just need to plan ahead better and start makig it more often so I won't have that craving when I am out.I usually just drink tea flavored w/one of Celestial Seasoning's bags and some of Heather's mint throughout the day. I was afraid the soyfee might make my tummy feel bad.Glad to know it is good for me. I have Heather's acacia but I'm afraid to try to switch.The Citrucel works and I don't want to get clogged up trying to work up to whatever dose I would need. I think I will try the bread you said you eat daily.It sounds good. I've been trying to find the Equalactin bec. I've read how much it helps. Need to keep searching. We're taking off again tom. and I hope it isn't a bad thing.I am insisting I get to drive for the first 3 hrs. so I can stop to go to the bathroom whenever I want(H. takes forever to stop when he's driving and I ask) We'll be in a motel for the 1st 2 nts. then move into our cottage on Sat. We're doing it this way to avoid the traffic on the 4th. I have also told hubby that this traveling may have to stop for a while.I need to get more stable. It's funny but I do the best when I am completely alone.I think I relax more and feel less stressed or concerned about what others might want to do,etc. Will keep you informed.Having my laptop is such a treasure for me. It relaxes me to sit and write. Does being overly fatigued bother you? It can cause me to get sick too. Do you exercise regularly? I try to walk everyday,but it sure hasn't cut off any pounds. Hi Suzy (I love that name)!
Yeah, I think exercise is crucial. Sometimes I stumble over to the rowing machine, cramped up, and feel so awful, especially at full compaction (knees up to my chest). When I start rowing, I'm in a lot of pain; I can't even row at full slide. But by the time I'm half through my workout, it's all gone -- and I'm able to row at full slide.
This may not make much sense to you, but what I'm trying to say is that the exercise actually can help get rid of the cramping and bloating.
Fatigue is an IBS trigger. Sleep is essential. Sometimes when I know I'm not going to be able to get to sleep -- I'm just wide awake -- I take a Tylenol PM. Great stuff. I sleep like a log.
Equalactin is hard to get. For some reason, drug stores don't have a supply of it, but they WILL order it for you if you ask the pharmacist. However, you can order it online: web page It's really ESSENTIAL. It's helped me through many a tough tummy!
BTW, I envy you all that travelling. Very exciting. I hope you can find a way to enjoy it.
