I will be seeing my family doctor next week and the Dicetel that I've been on for 2 1/2 months just isn't working. What are the IBS-D people taking? I take Immodium as well but is there a med out there that controls 'd', cramps, and pain? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx!

I take Bentyl (dicyclomine). It's an antispasmodic that helps with both D and C. I was taking it only when I had an attack, but my doctor said I should take it every day. Since then I haven't had an attack in 5 1/2 months!! I also take Imodium at the merest HINT of trouble and before eating out.

I'm also a D. But I'm not in Canada. Here's a post I sent to a gal from Canada a few months ago; it still applies: web page

I'm pleased to say that I haven't had to take any meds for several months now except for an occasional Equalactin. However, it's good to have the Big Guns on hand just in case.....

My doctor has me on Librax before breakfast and dinner. Have been on it for 5-6 weeks now. I think it helps with the pain but honestly I think the diet is what makes the difference with having D or not.

I'm just controlling my diet. No dairy, low sugar, no drinking with my meals or for an hour after. I'm also taking Benefiber twice a day. No problems.

I have taken Immodium everyday for years and recently got a elevated liver test back which my MD told me was due to using Immodium. So she just put me on Hyoscyamine/Levbid and I am supposed to take it twice a day. I guess it is an anti-spastic drug. I am new to the forum but have just begun trying the diet as well as FiberCon.

it does something to the gut nerves and as a side is constipating 50 mg. Information should be on this site somewhere, if not I think it is in Heather's book. I take the acacia, Immodium when needed(but lately I think it is making me have D) am going to get some Equalactin to give that a whirl. If I know I am going to have a stressful day I take one of Heather's peppermint pills the day before and the day of.

Hi Sara. I also take Levsin when needed. It calms down the bad attacks and sometimes if I'm nervous or going out to lunch where there's not many options I take half a pill beforehand (which I'm not really sure if you're supposed to do) but it works. The Metamucil pills before eating really help too.

I have been taking Levsin for about 6-7 years. I only take it as needed, so when I hit a low period I may take it every day for a week or two straight. I take 2 pills when I'm really feeling sick, and 1 pill if I just want it as a preventative. The nice thing is that if you chew it up a little bit and leave it under your tongue its supposed to work in about 15min, otherwise if you swallow it works in about an hour.

Hi Sara, I have been taking Lomotil for about 7 years. It's my tiny miracle pill. 1 usually will stop an attack immediately usually preventing a second run to the restroom, if not I take 1 more and that usually does the trick. I couldn't survive without it. I have taken imodium when I ran out of Lomotil, and that works pretty good too. I've also been on anti-depressants for about 3 years since the attacks were really severe, that also has helped me alot. Everyone goes through different meds until they find the right one, so hopefully you'll get something that will work right the first time.

Hi. I was looking at Levsin on webmd.com, because I want to try it after everyone says it works...
But it says 'Do not crush, chew, or open the capsules. Swallow them whole. They are specially formulated to release slowly in your body.'
Did your doctor tell you it's ok to chew them? It'd be nice to have them work fast like that...

HOW do you not drink during meals or for an hour afterwards?? Are you talking NO drinks, not even a sip?? I have tried, but I can't do it. Does that help a lot??

Hi I also take Dicetel but I get 4 pills a day 100 mgs each and it works most of the time but as a back up I have lomatil which my doctor says I can have 2 a day every day if needed but usually only need it once every other week or so. Maybe your Dicetel needs to be upped....I've been on the 4 a day for over a year...I took Modulan for a while but it didn't do anything....Hope it helps...

They actually have a version of levsin that is sublingual, meaning you are supposed to let it disolve underneith your tongue. I have this version and love it! They tried to give me the pills once and I made them redo the prescription so I could have the fast disolving ones again. I can feel the effects by the time its done disolving.

Just took one 5 mins ago for some pain I'm having and already feel drugged.
