Colonoscopy came back negative, doctor was not helpful!

I'm just basically venting here, but I got my colonoscopy results today and it came back negative, no signs of IBD or anything.

I suppose that's a good thing but I'm really annoyed at the doctor. When I saw this GI guy (who was not nice to me to begin with) he suggested the colonoscopy and I said ok, but that I would like to have other tests done as well (The ones Heather suggets) so that we can rule everything out. He said he wanted to start with the colonoscopy, and if that came back negative, we'd meet again and discuss it.

Well, he sent the results to my regular doc and just included he feels it's IBS, and he won't even see me again! So I now have to wait another 2-3 months to get a referral to another GI for the rest of the tests, and to get my funny ultrasound gall bladder results look at.

Why are they so insensitive!?!?! I'm so frustrated right now, like it would have been so hard for him to see me again...grrr...

Aw, Kelly! I'm so sorry to hear about your negative GI experience. Maybe try sending a message to your GI saying that you have questions about your colonoscopy and would like to make an appointment to discuss them? Then, while you have an appointment, you can bring up how he said he would run other tests!

Meanwhile, put in the request for a different GI referral! This guy doesn't sound decent at all.

Sorry you are having a problem with doc. I think I would demand an appointment with the GI doc and remind him what he said before about meeting to discuss it. Also, question him about the gallbladder problem. He should continue a check of that if results came back indicating a problem. If not mention the gallbladder problem with your reg. doc. and see what he says.

Kelly, it sounds like IBS. But you should be entitled to have other tests run.

All GIs go to the same School Of Idiots. As soon as they realize your problem is IBS, they know there's nothing they can do for you and there's no possibility that they'll get any surgery out of you ($$$$), so they show you the door and turn to the next victim. And so on and so on....

We've all been exposed to this excuse for medical care, whether it's in Canada or the U.S. It's the same School.

The good news is that you now know you don't have any life-threatening problem and there are no polyps, cancer, etc. That should be a relief to you. It was to me. While I haven't seen my GI since, and he even refused to prescribe any meds for me, I am grateful to know the final results: I have IBS and diverticulosis. Now it's time for me to get my meds from my regular doc, and if I need a GI in the future, I'll have my regular doc find me someone else.

2-3 months sounds like a long time, I know, but it's really not, provided you find someone you like -- you'll have him for a long time. Hang in there.

Bev

Hey Bev,
I agree that it sounds like it's IBS, I think I'll just feel better once I know for sure about the gallbladder, just in case.

Do you know, if it is IBS, is it "normal" to have not seen any improvement on Heather's diet? Because I have been so good and haven't cheated at all since I started in March, yet things aren't getting any better. That's what I don't understand because it all makes sense, and a lot of people have had success, I just keep thinking I'm doing something wrong...

Are you taking a SFS? I actually found that made the biggest difference.

And I needed meds and SFS AND the diet to stabilise.

Yes, I take Acacia and before that I was taking Metamucil. And I take a probiotic, and the meds that the doctors have given me, and no luck yet.

I'll even do the "What to Eat When you Can't Eat Anything" for weeks at a time, and I still don't seem to stabilize. I just end up feeling crappy because I'm not getting any protein

I'll keep trying though, one thing I have going for me is I'm determined that I'm going to get this straightened out eventually!

Kelly, I understand your frustration. I hear you poor Canadian girls talking about the Health Care in your country, it stinks!!

Try not to let yourself get too discouraged, I have been suffering with this since I was 17, I am now 47 and I am still not straightened out. I have had Heathers book for a little over a year, I have my good days and bad, I have been blessed with a great GI who does give me the meds I need. Really in the US, it is easy to get a script for just about anything, many times I have gone in with research I have done on a particular med, and they just sit and write...amazing, and bothersome at the same time.

Stay on the diet, don't give up!! I have read so many of your posts, I cant remember if you exercise? I am not consistant with it, but I am going to walk tomorrow!!

Thinking of you sweet Kelly!!! gayla

Thanks for your kind words. I used to excercise quite a bit but lately I haven't felt up to it at all, I've lost a lot of weight and I'm so tired all the time.

but, since the weather is finally getting better up here in the North, I hope to get out and start walking again which should be nice.

What meds does your GI give you that help you?
