My doc just called in a script for Librax. I have been taking Bentyl and getting little relief. Librax has a lot of side effects listed including addiction. Is it any more effective than Bentyl. Let me know if you have tried it. Thanks!

I took it a while back. It had the anti spasm drug in it similiar to Bentyl but it also has a very mild tranquiler in it. It may make you a bit tired but I didn't notice any other side effects!

i actually have an appt. with my doc today and i'm going to request librax. I've been on bentyl for 3 months now and even though i'm sure it helps, i get anxiety a lot when i have episodes. i've heard librax will help because of the tranquilizer. I know 3 or 4 people that have taken it and they all highly recommend it! Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have taken Librax for several years for anxiety and IBS. I started out with 3 a day one 30 minutes before each meal. I am down to 1 a day now but on really stressful days I take 2. It has 2 ingredients: One helps you relax and the other helps you stomach relax. I have read that it can be addicting so you can't just stop cold turkey if you have taken it for awhile. You need to taper off. I really am not concerned about that because it has helped me and as long as my doctor said it is OK I will take it.
Let me know if you take it and if it helps.

I was on Bentyl than switched to Librax- it is way more effective, at least I think it is. But, with the librax, it stopped working as well after using it for a couple of months, I still use it on bad days just in case it does do something. But, it does not solve everything like the doctors say it does! Good luck!

I have IBS-C, would this drug make my constipation worse? I currently take Miralax and the Bentyl never constipated me. Let me know what your experience was if you can. Thanks so much for all of your input!

For the record, there's a difference between addiction and dependence. Addiction is when you take more than the doctor prescribes and keep taking more and more just for the high. You can be physically dependent on something, as I am on Effexor for example, but not be addicted. Unless you have a history of substance abuse, you probably don't need to worry.
