I am dying for hot chocolate, but I don't exactly know how to make it safe for IBS. Help!

Well cocoa's okay, so you could make it the old fashioned way (but with soy milk). Or heat up some chocolate soy milk. Enjoy!

Heather turned me on to chocolate Silk soy milk. Just pour a cup full, mike it, and bingo bango, you got yourself some wonderful hot chocolate! You won't believe how marvelous it is! I was dumbfounded.
Alternatively, you can make your own cocoa using Hershey's cocoa and vanilla soy milk, but then you have to add sugar, etc. -- and really the chocolate Silk soy milk is just as good!
Don't forget to add some marshmallows! YUMMMMMMMM......

OMG, I can't believe I forgot to share this! I learned not too long ago that Ghirardelli's hot chocolate is actually dairy-free!! It's old-fashioned, so you're supposed to add your own hot milk to the mix, but if you add soy or rice milk instead it's totally safe! And it's sooooo yummy. It comes in a few flavors. Here's the one I bought:
Before this I always made my cocoa the old-fashioned way, using the recipe on the Hershey's cocoa can. I still do that sometimes, because you can add some vanilla or almond extract and make that taste really yummy. But this is even easier and it's so delicious!

Hi Kree,
You put so many recipies and so many good ideas like this hot chocolate that I'm giving you the "cook of the year reward".
The good part is that since I can't have soy because of having hypothyroidism as do others here we can use rice milk. Some of your other recipies are also interchangeable so we can get lots of ideas with all the recipies you submit. I still cook a lot but after 40 years of it don't enjoy it quite as much. When my two children were at home used to bake every day also but have given a lot of the baking up and just do the cooking.
I can tell you enjoy doing it and have sooooo many ideas!!
Thanks Again!! Pat

Kree, I'm glad you posted this. If I don't have at least 2 boxes of this in the house, I think I'm out of groceries!!! But here is where you and I part ways , you like the Hazelnut flavor and I buy the DOUBLE CHOCOLATE only!!!
I don't even mix it with a thing...........just hot water, and LOTS of the mix.................OMG, "yum" (as the Furbie would say).
Lately I've been wearing only black........since I'm in morning...........doc's orders...........no caffeine, not even a little, and you know that includes ANY that would be in cocoa................poo... Good thing I'm on codene, it takes the edge off the addiction....

All you lucky people who can have hot chocolate or ANY chocolate! It's not fair - chocolate of any kind is about the worst trigger in the book for me! I have one chocolate chip cookie and I pay for it for three days! I've never tried the chocolate soy milk though - maybe sometime when I'm feeling up to it - generally if there's cocoa products involved, I keep a clear distace. Min

If I had a chocolate chip cookie, I'd suffer too -- BIG time! But it's not the chocolate with me, it's the fat and the dairy.
Heather has a piece of chocolate every day (as I recall, it's Hershey's kisses, one a day?). I haven't had the nerve to try ANY chocolate yet; I could never have just one kiss -- NEVER. One BAG, sure, but one KISS? No way.
Try the Silk chocolate soy milk, it really is good, cold or hot (but hot is fab!). Really, it makes excellent cocoa.

i use about 3/4 cup very vanilla silk soy milk (really sweet) w/ 1/4 cup plain/unsweetened silk soy milk and warm it in microwave and add 1tbs. carob powder. Yum. Cause me and cocoa powder don't mix for reasons other than ibs. if you have plain soy milk, do 1 tbs. carob powder and 1 tbs honey and 1/2 tsp vanilla. honestly i can't tell diff. btwn carob and cocoa except doesn't make me feel icky (icky other than ibs) Have fun!

Aww, thanks Patricia! I'm blushing!
You're right, I do love cooking and baking! I guess it's obvious. Maybe it will wear off for me someday too but for now it's my favorite hobby. I'm glad you're able to enjoy so many of the recipes I share!

Double chocolate... now that sounds absolutely scrumptious too. This is my first box and I had trouble deciding but ended up going with the hazelnut. I'll try the double chocolate next!!
No caffeine at all... oh, you poor girl. The only caffeine I have is chocolate but I don't think I could give that up. Cocoa powder is one of my true joys in life. So you haven't warmed up to carob, eh? I only tried it once but from that experience I don't blame you. I hope you get the A-OK to eat your chocolate again soon!!
