Since I started this diet,I've been doing pretty good.Sunday,I went to a friends' house for dinner. I had grilled chicken on the grill, fried potatoes and applesauce.
After dinner I had an attack of IBS. I don't know what triggered it. Could it had been the barbecue sauce on the chicken? Or maybe the shorten used for frying the potatoes, although she didn't use much and they weren't greasy. anyone have any thoughts.

If it were ME....I'd have to say the fried potatoes.

sorry. fried was my major food group before IBS.

i agree with Shell... i bet it was the fried potatoes.

other thoughts:

if you're sensitive to high fructose corn syrup and there was some in the BBQ sauce, that could be it. (i'm not sensitive to the stuff, but others on the board are)

sounds like a cookout, and cookouts are great. unfortunately, i usually eat too much at them 'cause of all the tempting food. if you eat too much at a sitting, you can trigger an attack.

sounds like a cookout, and cookouts are great. (deja vu! ) but often cookouts are, well... out. and sometimes it's hot out. if it is really hot, that can trigger an IBS attack in some people. (i'm one of 'em. in fact, i hadn't had an attack of D all year 'til this weekend and one of the reasons was that i sat outside in the sun at my bro's graduation. insta-D!)

you may want to Search "applesauce" with the highest date possible (1 year, i think), 'cause it seems to me applesauce comes up on a lot of posts where people are wondering about triggers. i do fine, but there's something telling me i've seen others say there could be a problem...

and even worse:

could have been a combination of all of the above. maybe each of these alone isn't enough to trigger an attack for you but all mixed together with goodness knows what else, you were in prime condition for an attack....

sorry you were sick and hope you're feeling better now.

Jen, you said exactly what I was going to, that it may have been the quantity consumed as well. Also, I get kinda wired when socializing, you know, just "up" which makes my tummy tense which means ANYTHING I eat out or at friends can upset me.

drz7, one suggestion for the future is to take an Imodium before social meals like that. As a preventive.

Feel better soon.

OR Equalactin as a "preventative" measure.

However, fried potatoes would give me an attack, oh yeah...

You're showing your age, Goldie!

Actually, I was referring to Equalactin as opposed to Immodium. Didn't you suggest Immodium?

BTW, I'll never go without having an emergency supply of EITHER in my purse from now on......

"You wanna walnetto!" Yeah, LS, "you betchur bippy!"
