Ok, I hope this isn't a stupid question but I'm not too bright when it comes to these things. My abdominal pain has worsened over the last few days, to the point where today I'm still have D but am nauseus as well and can't seem to eat anything. I'm not even drinking as much as I should be because I start to feel as though I'm going to throw it up.

My question is, how long can a person go without eating and drinking only minimially before it can potentially become a problem? I have an appointment to see my primary doc on Wednesday and I'm going to demand an appointment with another GI since the one I have hasn't helped me at all and I'm clearly getting sicker.

I'm just scared because I don't want to get dehydrated or too weak from no food. I've been having bad boughts of dizziness as well. I tried to drink some unflavored pedialyte today (I figured it would be easier on the tummy than Gatorade) but I couldn't get it down.

Any advice?
Thanks,
Kelly

Hey - this list has some ideas of what to eat if you can't eat anything. If you really can't eat anything at all maybe you could try one of those meal drinks like Ensure, I think they're called? At least they will give you some nutrition for now...
Anyway, here's the list - web page

Kelly, I'm so sorry you're going through this! At least you are aware of dehydration, etc. I don't know how long a person can go without food, but without fluids, it's not too long I don't think. You'll need to get something in you before Wed.
How long has it been since you've eaten? Your dizziness might be from not eating. Do you think you could take a dramamine to get rid of the nausea? That way maybe you could eat, since nausea makes you want to do anything but eat! The pedialyte is a good idea. You could also try veggie broth or very small ice chips. Just drink very very slowly in small amounts and try to relax yourself (deep breaths!). I think getting some calories into you will help you, but I know it's hard to do when you feel so awful.
Here's some links I found that explain dehydration and checklist for emergencies
I think you'll be fine, so don't let all this scare you too much.
Hang in there!
