Hi guys
Just had to write down the kind of day ive had. Started out ok. Managed to leave the house! been a few weeks since ive happily got up and gone out of my own accord. Didnt last long though before all the popping and churning started and the anxiety returned. i hadnt eaten anything before i left so that my stomach had nothing to work on! dont know if that would make any differnce but i find it kinda logical!
So i returned home and sat listening to my stomach for about an hour trying to distract myself with a DIY prog on the tv. Decided that maybe if i ate something plain and basic it might stop grumbling.
Still no joy. Although up til this point iv havent used the toilet,so not all bad!
Eventually managed to wind myself up into a full blown panic attack.. oh how wonderful that felt! my positive day was right down the drain!
Overcame the panic eventually by being distracted by family members, but still had my constant companion-the gurgle. Dreading all day i was going to have D , i finally got the urge to go and was C!!?
Was kinda reassured by that fact, and if i could spend my life C without it causing pain or an explosive day after a few days C i would be fine.
Still with my gurgle its tea time and i was getting fed up by now so i decided to give my stomach a prod and a poke, and found that its all blocked air!? (i think) it was like i was popping bubbles and shifting the blocked air by pushing on it. and the noise stopped!
Now im not sure if im right, but could i be suffering from all the gurling, churning popping because im starving myself as i eat the amount of a 2 year old each day.. and so my gut is full of air?? and all i need is some way to pass all this gas for a silent stomach??
Anyways i ate tea happily, and had my 2nd visit to the bathroom shortly after and C starting to be changed into the other...but im again full of popping and bubbling up. i think this is worse than C or D.. as its there all the time and im 24hr consoius of it.
Well sorry to ramble, any ideas on anything ive mentioned will be so so helpful.
X

Have you tried Beano? I'm afraid I don't know what it's called in the UK (if the name is even different at all!) - maybe Linz can help with this one? Any other anti-gas medicine might help you.

As for the anxiety, have you checked out the Hypnosis for IBS page? A lot of people have found relief from anxiety that's caused by worrying about IBS by listening to these tapes.

Are you on Heather's diet right now? It could be that you're eating gassy foods. You mentioned that you ate something plain and that it didn't help - what did you eat? It does sound like you need to eat more. Try soluble fiber foods like bread, rice, and pretzels for a few days and see if that helps.

Also check out the Yoga for IBS page for some gas reducing yoga poses.

Hope this helps!

Hey, Gurgle, if you're not eating enough, it could definitely be causing your noisy tummy. Start eating more of Heather's list of soluble fiber foods for a couple days and see if that helps.

I've had that kind of gas and it can be very uncomfortable. I'm thinking what Laurasue and Jennifer suggested sounds good! You may want to look at what you're eating as well as how much you're eating...

For gas, I've found "Oval" (it's a simethicone based tablet) helps especially if you take it then have a hot bath. Fennel tea is also very helpful for gas - the fennel has done wonders for me. Give it a try!

Eat, please! An empty tummy will be full of nothing but gas - not good! Try and eat something soluble fibre based every few hours to keep some SF in your tummy. I'd be suprised if you're still troubled by this if you eat regularly safely.

Also, make sure you don't have carbonated drinks and don't eat or drink quickly - if you do you'll swallow more gas!

Exercise can help get the gas out, particularly bends in yoga.

Btw, where in the UK are you? I'm just moving to Newbury. I'm trying to start up a UK IBS & Fibro support group - would you like to join?

Newbury's west of Reading? It's on the main trainline from the south-west to London.

The support group is intended to be a way of interacting away from the boards. Meeting socially for IBS-safe events...organising events to try alternative treatmenst like yoga or massage...having a support network this side of the Atlantic!...getting to meet people face-to-face...etc. Very low-stress and all aimed at having fun!

Sounds like a great idea, but currently i cant even make it to the shops without having a panic attack, which is an issue aside from ibs.
i wish you the best of luck and if there is anything i can do for you from here, just let me know. x
