So, I was wondering if anyone has heard of a link between or a misdiagnosis of IBS and scoliosis/MS? A couple years ago the doctor's discovered I have scoliosis but they found it late enough that they couldn't do much to keep it from getting worse as I had just stopped growing. The curve is significant but it doesn't visibly affect me much. Has anyone ever heard of a connection between the two or symptoms mimicking IBS due to pinched nerves, etc? Another interesting thing I found and it was suggested to me that there's a possibility this is MS due to the increasing bladder problems and the tremors I mentioned on another post, as well as confusion(beyond the moments we all have;) ) swallowing problems, etc. I don't know if that stuff fits w/ IBS. I know it hits everyone differently but is this a little too different? As soon as school's out I'm going to persue this more but in the meantime, can anybody share some insight.... Thanks guys:)

I haven't heard of a link between IBS and MS but there is a 'link' between IBS and mitral valve prolapse/mitral valve prolapse syndrome. Many people with MVPS have some sort of digestive disorder and from what I've been reading on MVPS, scoliosis, IBS, tremors, difficulty swallowing, chest pain, palpitations, anxiety, and confusion are all symptoms of this disorder. Diagnosing MVP is fairly easy - you have a murmur or click, there is something wrong with your mitral valve and can de diagnosed with an echocardiogram. But MVPS is not as easy as you can have MVPS without the actual valve problems. The symptoms are many and quite varied among people with MVPS. Here is a website which I've found helpful:

It's something to look into. My dr's thought I had MS for a while but ruled it out after an MRI of my brain. I would push my drs for an MRI, its one of the best indicators for MS. If it looks likely, the next step is a spinal tap to confirm. My sister has MS so I know a little about it. Your symptoms do sound like MS but they could also be something else as well. I wouldn't worry about it until more testing is done, and you do definitely need more testing.
I haven't been diagnosed with MVPS yet but I do have an appt with the cardiologist this week, hopefully I'll get some kind of answers. Good luck to you, your best weapon is to be as knowlegeable aa you possibly can - do the research and present to your dr's for consideration. Ask alot of questions and don't let them blow you off. It's your health, your body, and you need to stand up for you and get what you need. Getting off my soapbox now, lol. Keep us informed what you find out, k?

Well, I have both scoliosis (came close to a brace, but I stopped growing just in time to avoid it) and IBS, and both run in my mom's family. One data point doesn't make a correlation, though.
As a complete aside, my scoliosis is almost undetectable by a non-specialist now after several years of weight training and yoga. Strong back and abs muscles can help, particularly for couch 'taters like me. And Heather's diets and supplements have made my IBS much better, too!
