Okay, there are days I don't go to the bathroom and then most days I have attacks (IBS-D). Well, Friday night, my stomach was bloated and I was very uncomfortable like I was constipated. Then the next morning, I had the same problem...so I tried to force myself to go to the bathroom (unusual for me now). And after I went, I got my SEVERE attacks of diarrhea . Is this a normal thing, or does it sound like I had a virus?

You are probably IBS-A then. How many days do you go between D attacks? And what do you mean you tried to force yourself to go? Hope you're staying away from laxatives! But C followed by a burst of D is usually what I get. Are you getting enough sf? I'm taking acacia now and it's great! Peppermint caps also help. What about water? Drinking enough of it? It's a pain having A, but sf really helps to keep me from swinging violently.

Hiya,
Poor you! I know how frustrating it is to go from one kinda sick to another, as if one kind wasn't bad enough! I think it is normal for IBS if, like tuxedocat said, you have IBS-A. I was always IBS-D, and then suddenly one day puffed up like a balloon and couldn't go to the bathroom, even though I really felt like I 'had to go!'. I was like, "Wait a minute, this isn't what I get..." but apparently it is, from time to time. If that happens, and I don't go for a day or have trouble going, I usually get hit pretty bad the next day with D.
I'd try the soluble fiber thing, and the herbal teas thing. Good luck to you, I hope you feel better (in both extremes!!) very soon,
Steph

I go a couple of days between D attacks, unless, of course I eat something I'm not supposed to eat or it's my time of month...then I have D attacks more frequently. When I said I forced myself to go, I just pushed (no laxatives). I have enough D, as long as I'm pain free and bloated free, I'm happy to be C. I have not added fiber to my diet yet...not sure why...I guess I just don't like taking anything. I'd love to try the peppermint caps, but I have GERD You know, the last couple of days, I've been quite busy that I don't think I have been drinking as much water as I should. So, what's the difference in IBS-A and IBS-D? I just assumed that I'm only D because some days I don't have attacks.
