I have been going along okay in the last couple of months on the diet- I'm more prone towards C when I eat all the soluable fiber, but am primarily an A when things are "normal".
However, last night I took a Maxalt, which is my migraine medication, and I have not stopped hurting or D'ing since...
Anyone else notice this kind of connection?

I haven't had that problem at all. In fact probably the exact opposite. I have been so stable for quite a while until this months. My migraines have been nuts. My neurologist switched my preventative last monday and I think I might have had 3 BM since.

I'm sorry you're have the opposite problem. I wish we could meet somewhere in the middle. I hope your headache is better. Are your's really bad? I have had 17 this month? I don't know how much more I can take.

I take Maxalt too, but I haven't noticed that problem. Granted I haven't had a migraine in about 3 months, so maybe I just don't remember...or never made the connection before. Are you sure it was the Maxalt and not something you ate? Hope you feel better soon!

I take Relpax and Imitrex which are also triptans like Maxalt and I've never had that problem. Might want to do a web search and see what the reported side effects are.

Anyway, that bites. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi! Just a suggestion...are you like me and only take your med when you actually get a migraine? Well, Maxalt was the only thing that worked for me, and I never paid much attention to whether it upset my tummy. Anyway, last time I was at the Dr. she didn't have any Maxalt, so she gave me Zomig. I found that it works just as well for my migraines, and it doesn't bother my tummy either. I am also an "A". You can ask your Dr. about it-see if it agrees with you better. Good luck!

Hi Hon! Sorry you're feeling so bad. Just curious...apparently at one time your Neuro decided a preventative was good for you, but they don't work for everyone. Since you are suffering so bad, maybe you can ask about something that would work after your migraine starts. Hope you feel better!

I am sorry that you are feeling bad today. Bad enough to have a headache and then to have D on top of it. I take Imitrex for my migraines and it makes my stomach feel sick but I don't have D. Maybe you can talk to your Doc and try one of the other meds suggested here or maybe it was something you ate and not the meds.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hmmm. I just got a prescription for maxalt a few weeks ago. The times I've used it I don't recall it giving me D...I remember getting D sometime around then. Maybe it just doesn't agree with you. I remember my neurologist saying there are a few of them that are all pretty much the same but some work differently for different people. So, ask your doctor. Because, getting your migraine to sail away is happy, but then spending that time on the toilet wishing someone would shoot you in the leg (well..not really...but you know what i mean) to take away the pain from your stomach isn't a great alternative. Good luck. I hope you feel better!

Oh I am on something for after they start as well. It's not working either. The headaches eventually go away, but I have the biggest hangover. It just SUCKS right now. I'm sure all of you who suffer from migraines understand how I feel now.

Oh absolutely! But there are several different meds out there. Have you tried everything available? Some of them don't work for me either.

I'm sorry! I had a migraine for like at least 3 months straight. Like all the doctors at first didn't think it was possible. Actually. My ex-dr. just thought i was depressed and didn't even ask me where my head hurt when i said i had a headache...he just said anyone over seven can get headache. Can't they give you something in an IV to "break the cycle' It's funny. They use that term for migraines also. I eventually was in the hospital and they gave me this medicine through my IV that helped me and gave me ice packs for my head. Just a thought. You might need something in an IV because I was a zombie in agony and could like barely see...felt like I was going to throw up...and afterwards it was better. I've still had to get my meds adjusted but I"m a lot better than I was a few months ago. So just athought that you might need to "break the cycle." That's just about the point where I was at when they took my MRI. I could barely even walk I was so zonked. I really hopeyou feel better. Okay? Update us. Also. Right now I'm on Verapamil at a higher dose and a lower dose of Topamax. I know for a fact that being on a high dose of topamax or any antiseizure medicine zonked me out but i didn't admit it at the time ..all i could do was write with my left hand and i'm right handed. The verapamil helped me (i get migraines and daily headaches) so that my headache was only any where from a 4 to a 6 every day on pain scale with bad ones mixed in sometimes....and then the topamax seems to be helping more now...but I can function too without that fog. OK. That probably didn't help you. I just wanted to help because ...yeah. Sorry if i bored you. Feel better okay? I'm sending you headache-go-away powers!!!!!!!!!

Tara--does the topamax effect your memory? just wondering, since I was thinking about trying it. I'm on another anti-seizure med and it makes me so dippy!! Not in fog, but just plain forgetful which is bad since I teach history! It's like, someone will ask me a totally basic question--What's your phone number?--and I have no idea! I've had luck with the tricyclics for prevention. Hang in there Tarabara--you'll beat these dang headaches! I know you can. A 4-6 on a pain scale is a great improvement, but it can get even better than that.

On high doses, YES! for me, at least it did. I remember people would ask me a question and before they would finish asking it I would forget what they were asking me. Or I wouldn't remember what I was starting to say. I could do parts of AP Calculus problems in my head before and then all of a sudden i forgot how to multiply or find the slope of a line . So it does affect your memory. Thanks for the support. Yes...I'll beat the headaches. My improvement has been great and it can get better. My neurologist said so..that our goal is to get me better by September when I start college She's really nice and she gets migraines too. She says i just have to pace myself and realize that there are ups and downs but it's generally moving up. I would have to agree Thanks and good luck!

Trust me you don't bore me. I was hospitalized last summer for a week. Then I stabilized once put on Depakote, but a month ago it stopped working. My neuro put me on Zonogran two weeks ago, but it doesn't seem to be working either. I do appreciate the concern. I'm really hoping I don't have to go back in the hospital, but I do understand about being in a complete fog. I make no sense any more. I was staring at a lawn mower the other day and couldn't remember what it was. Oh well the joys of our lives!!

Have a good weekend!! And thanks!!

I have been on Migranal, Zomig and now I am on Maxalt as well as narcotics. I hope to find something. Thanks for the concern.

Aww..thank you so much! Yes it's awful. What's awful is how some people still don't really accept headaches as real..even today..lol. I'm not going to lie..there were times when I would cry..but I feel that it has happened for a reason because now I know I will never ignore anyone's pain and I really pay close attention to the way I state things to make sure I'm not actually making someone feel worse. So yes...all of this has been not fun but at least it's not deadly and it makes me more sensitive to the feelings of others. Thanks for your support! Hope you're doing well!
