Hello- I'm new to the site even though I do read the monthly newsletter. I'm just starting out and I could use any suggestions or tips as to where to start. I have learned to cut triggers out for the most part but I'm still experimenting with some. I don't use a Fiber supp. but it seems to be that I should be. I'm IBS-D prone so I don't know which one I should use. I'm going to make the banana bread tonight so I'm excited! However, I just nimbled on my son's pizza and I'm feeling rumbly. Should have known better. I normally can't eat pizza at all!! I hope to hear from someone!!!!

Hi and welcome! I'm a newbie too and have found this site full of really nice, helpful people.
Since I'm new I won't offer more advice than to point you to the "home" page on this site. Start clicking on links and read what Heather says about eating safe. Also I highly recommend getting her books as they have taught me a lot. Also, look for the "post notes" that Heather puts at the beginning of the message board. (The ones that look like a push pin). She has links in there also which tell you where to start. Also, do a "Search" for specific words of things you're looking for. You'd be amazed how many other posts are out there like yours with lots of replies.
If you're like me, you'll find that once you embrace the IBS safe way of eating you'll want to apologize to your digestive track and wonder why you put yourself through such suffering all this time.. Even a wonderful pizza nibble isn't worth it! (or a great cup of coffee)

WELCOME to the boards.
if you want my advice, which you're gonna get whether you want it or not, the best thing you can do is skip trying the other soluble fiber supplements (which may or may not work for you) and order Heather's Acacia Tummy Fiber. if you're hesitant about the soluble fiber supplements, hopefully this will help convince you: soluble fiber supplements- convincing stuff. if that doesn't do the trick, consider this: it is my very unscientifically proven impression that most of the people on the boards who rave about the acacia the most vocally (ok, i'm one of 'em) are Ders. ("Ders"---that's "those with diarrhea-predominant IBS," in case you're not sure!) Again, everyone may disagree with me for having said that, but i'm tellin' ya what i've noticed from all these lovely, beloved people on the boards here. i tried a few other supplements and wasn't happy 'til acacia. i'm not the only one who says that. so.... if you're about to start soluble fiber supplements, why not start with that one!?
second tip: peppermint or fennel tea. don't care which one you want or like, but i betcha one or both make you much happier!
hmm... if pressed to give you a tip #3: make yourself a nice batch of Will's Dreamy Rice Pudding, STAT! have some around all the time. (the other rice pudding in the book -- pecan banana--- is also YUMMERS!)
here, have a gander at this: welcome letter!. may be some stuff in there that's helpful!
GOOD LUCK and keep posting! we're glad you're here!

Our Miss JenX has got all the grounds covered here, so I'll try not to repeat them.
But I do want to welcome you. I'm a D like you. Yes, you're right; you definitely need a fiber supplement. I started out with Fibercon, then Citrucel, and finally Heather's incredible Acacia. (Don't let me influence you, but the Acacia is best.)
You need Heather's book, "The First Year." It's our bible.
Yeah, pizza bothered me BIG TIME until I realized I can't tolerate dairy. (Practically ALL of us can't; it's a BIG trigger.) But you can find Amy's Frozen Soy Cheese Pizza at the health food store -- and I gotta tell ya, it's INCREDIBLE! In fact, most soy products at the health food store are. Wait 'till you discover all the magnificent frozen soy "ice cream" flavors! (Don't let me influence you, but Soy Dream Mocha Fudge is the best.)
Again, welcome to the boards -- and keep asking those questions, because that's how you'll get better real fast.
Bev

Welcome to the BEST places for IBSers! This site rocks - everyone's sooooooooooooo helpful. Jen and Bev have given great info, so all I'll add is try Chamomile Tea as well. It's great for D and cramps and bloating.
PS. Acacia is the best!
