I have been incorporating the soluble fibers into my diet; I have found success with soluble fiber of Benefiber. I have used this with more water than recommended what do you think about that? Meaning the directions call for 1 tablespoon with 4 oz of any beverage. I put in the 1 tablespoon but I used over 20 oz of water to start.

Now that I am stabilized somewhat do you think I should now go to the 4 oz with 1 table spoon and not over flood the water with it. The reason I was doing it like this as I had started off slowly as I did not want to give my system a shock and cause more spasms, it seems that I get tense and then I have pressure and constant diarrhea but since doing it this way with lots of water and eating soluble fibers all day I have been able to control this.

But what I have found also that during the week I see to have more stability than the weekends as the weekends even with the soluble fibers I have sometimes no bowel movements and constant constipation. But during the week I have stability. I walk and do exercise on the weekend to keep moving but constipation is still there any suggestions?

The more water you can drink per day the better so I wouldn't cut down at all on water consumption. Also exercise helps, stress management, etc. I recommend Heather's book - IBS, the First year. Everything you probably want to know and more is in that book. The best foods to eat and what to eat first in a meal and what foods to avoid, etc. Also all about fiber and all the other topics that come up. And keep posting as there are lots of great advise. Some of us are even trying the hypnosis tapes.

Thanks, I am not cutting down on the water, I flood my body with least 60 or 70 oz a day depending if I exercise then I have more as I use most of it exercising. But I am, trying to figure the best way to work with the soluble fibers effectively as this benefiber is working for me and I had disastrous effects with the Citrucel as to excess diarrhea, what do you recommend with the constipation on the weekends, I am at a loss, I am ready to try the acupuncture or the hypnosis myself or even the yoga.

Sometimes I want to cry with this, but I have the books by Heather and I have been reading them over and over just in case I missed something. Having this problem stinks; I am sure all the rest of you can agree. At least I took some direction to do something about it now as I had suffered so many years and did not know what I had. I had got fed up and went to the doctor and had all the tests over and over and there is no disease in my colon and intestine so I am glad but I do sometimes suffer from panic attacks that make this worse. Thanks for the suggestions

You're doing great -- good for you. And the more water, the better. You need the water; it's important. I think the instructions meant to say that you're to "add it to (at least) 4 oz. of any beverage." Don't forget, you need to have at least 64 ounces of water every day anyway.

I'm sorry, I can't help you with the C -- I've never had it. Surprising that you only have it on the weekends, when you exercise -- you'd think it would be the other way around. Are you drinking all your water on the weekends? Remember, at least 64 ounces/day.....

Hopefully others in here -- those who are more familiar with C than I -- can help you out with that C.

Bev

Maybe you are eating differently on the weekends that cause problems? There must be something different. Maybe it would help to keep a log of what you eat and drink for a while to see what's up.

Yes, it seems that way, but when I was taking the Citrucel, it made the diarreah worse on Monday morning. With the Benefiber, I have seemed to be working effectively with the problems, but my nervers seem to make the Bowel movements worse, so I am trying to relax my nerves more and stay away from everything until I have it under control

Do you keep a different sleep schedule on the weekend? Do you drink alcohol? These are the only reasons I can think of as to why you might have C on the weekend. As for D on Monday morning, that could be nerves. I know I get stressed out just thinking about the week starting and all the things that have to get done! As you increase your fiber supplements though, you shouldn't swing between C and D as often.
