I feel bad abandoning my vitamins. [*]Abandon vitamins?
I am missing an 81 mg. aspirin, calcium, C, E, and a multi. Should I continue taking them during my IBS bouts or not?

Mogues - how many mg's is the Vit C? I was taking 500 mg of C in the evening and had terrible gas all evening and all night. It put my husband in the guest room to sleep!!!

Sharon:
I normally take a 500 C, 1000 iu E, a multi-vitamin, 1200 mg. calcium and a baby aspirin (plus 6 other things I will cut out for the time being. I really hate missing these other 5 vitamins though. (I'd even give up the C if I could just take the rest). What to do!!! 'Tis a puzzlement.

Mogues - are you A,B or D? Calcium tends to "bind you up" so it's better to take it with an amount of Magnesium Citrate at 1/2 the dose of the calcium: ie. 1000 mg calcium, 500 mg magnesium citrate. I've tried to find the two together in one pill, but the magnesium is the wrong kind. You can buy it separately, tho. I started taking it the other day with my calcium (I stopped for a while w/the calcium) and I didn't go for a couple of days (I'm C) but now it's working just fine.

Are you getting a lot of gas after you take the 500 mg C? If so, that could be the culprit. You could try smaller doses--like my multi has 60 mg of C and that doesn't bother me. I think it's the large dose and Heather said it was citric acid which is irritating to the colon.

Sharon:
I think you misunderstood me.
I have been taking these vitamins every day for years with no problems whatever. I balance my calcium properly with magnesium and D, and C has never bothered me at all.

My concern is that when I have a bout of IBS I am afraid to add any chemicals (vitamins) to my system for fear of disturbing it further.

All I wondered was, is there anyone who knows if it is still okay to continue taking my vitamins or should I be waiting till my symptoms diminish in a few days?

(I hate going without!)
