Hi,
I'm new here and I am finding these Message Boards very helpful and somewhat overwhelming with all the information! I find I'm doing more searches than posts and finding some of what I need to know but this time I thought I'd just ask!

I was diagnosed with "IBS" about 3 years ago but I have had lots of tummy troubles since I was a kid - only now do I understand the difficulties better! I have IBS -"C" and had been using stool softeners (e.g.,Senekot), taking Metamucil, drinking lots of water, eating lots of bran and exercising regularly. That didn't work!

Now that I have found Heather's book and all of this info I am on the road to better health. I've been taking Heather's Acacia since last Wednesday (I'm up to 3 teaspoons / day)and I have changed my diet. Unfortunately I forget sometimes and eat dairy by accident - e.g., putting parmasen cheese on my pasta... I suppose the trick is not to have dairy in the fridge!

Anyhow - the question is this - now that I've been taking the Acacia for a few days and changed my diet (mostly) how long does it usually take to ease the C? Is the idea that with the Acacia and the diet changes (including drinking lots of water, exercising etc.) that I should be able to get to a point where I will have a regular bowel movement daily with no pain? (Just looking for the light at the end of the tunnel...)
Thanks!

First of all, congrats on doing the diet! Second, congrats on taking Acacia!

Third, it can take a couple of weeks for C to get better.

So be patient and go out and treat yourself! It's great you've joined the boards and that you're taking care of you!

There are posts on C and how to help it. Do a search for poop! Some suggestions I recall from that post: Drink warm lemon juice first thing in the AM (if you have GERD DO NOT do this!) Drink lotsa water and get plenty of rest and exercise. Make sure you get enough fat and INsoluble fiber in your diet (nott too much of either tho). HTH...good luck...let us know how you make out!

*hugs*

I have C and D. I'm still retaining amatuer status with the C, but I'm a pro at D. I think Ruchie gave you great advice and tips on how to search for more help on the C front...

BTW, I'm impressed at the acacia! I've been on for weeks and can't get past 3 tsps a day... maybe 'cause I get D?? Dunno. Anyway, glad you got it and are taking it. That's the best start!

Good luck. Don't really have much advice in me today, just wanted to say welcome. So...
